Osakue Sets Division II Discus Record; Rambelles Win David Noble ASU Relays and Rams Place Second

SAN ANGELO ­– Angelo State's Daisy Osakue electrified the crowd with the best discus throw in Division II history to help the women's team win the David Noble ASU Relays title while the men finished second on Sunday at LeGrand Stadium at 1st Community Credit Union Field.

The Rams & Rambelles combined for 18 national marks at home with five automatic qualifies in the men's decathlon, women's discus, women's shot put, women's high jump and men's javelin. The women scored 191.5 points to secure the team title ahead of Texas A&M-Commerce's 121.5. The men scored 148 points and only trailed Pittsburg State's 150 points.

Oskaue was competing in her third event of the day after throwing the hammer and shot put. In the preliminaries, the sophomore recorded her best throw of the season at 182'-6" (55.64-meters) to extend her lead in the discus. Her first throw of the final made history. The mark measured 195'-11" (59.72-meters) to surpass Sam Lockhart of Grand Valley State's record of 193'-1" (58.87-meters) for the Division II all-time leading mark. It set the facility, meet, LSC and ASU records as well and won her the event title.


Earlier in the day Osakue scheduled a second event to compete in at the national meet. The Italian native threw an outdoor personal best and NCAA Division II automatic qualifying mark of 51'-7.75" (15.74-meters) to place second in the shot put. She is now No. 3 in Division II in the shot put.

Nils Fischer had an impressive day in the men's javelin. All five legal marks that Fischer recorded measured at least 236'-2" (72.00-meters). His best throw of the day was his second of the competition. He launched the javelin 244'-6" (74.53-meters) to extend his national lead in the event and put his name on the Division II all-time top 10 list for the second time. It is the sixth best throw in Division II history, the fourth best throw among all divisions this season  and the second best of his career at Angelo State.

Kaitlin Lumpkins duplicated her best career mark in the women's high jump and now owns the indoor and outdoor school records in the high jump. The senior cleared 5'-11.25" (1.81-meters) to place second. The jump improves on her previous outdoor best of 5'-10" (1.78-meters) and was an automatic qualifying mark.

Deandre Wade moved into the top five nationally in both the 200-meters and 400-meters and was a key part of the 4x400-meter relay. The junior college transfer clocked a provisional and personal bests of 21.01 in the 200-meters and 47.06 in the 400-meters. The 200-meter time is No. 4 in Division II and he placed third in the final while his 400-meter time in No. 3 in Division II this season.

Wade along with Marshall Tousant, Tyler Welch and Ben Thiel ran the second fastest time in Division II this season with a NCAA Division II provisional time of 3:10.22 to win the last race of the day.

Trenadey Scott jumped into the top of the women's triple jump. The sophomore recorded a personal best and NCAA Division II provisional mark of 39'-10" (12.14-meters) and place third overall. Scott was third in the women's long jump with a jump of 18'-10" (5.74-meters).

Kami Norton recorded seasonal best times in both the 100-meter hurdles and the 400-meter hurdles. She ran a seasonal best of 13.85 to place second in the 100-meter hurdles and followed it with the 400-meter hurdle title crossing the line in 59.84. She later ran a leg on the 4x400-meter relay along with Octavia Williams, Kristin Wright and Kaitlyn Matthews that clocked a season best and provisional time of 3:47.64.

Ayodeji Adedokun finished seventh in the men's 110-meter hurdles with a seasonal best and NCAA Division II provisional time of 14.52. The junior is No. 22 in Division II.

Tyler Russel competed in his first outdoor meet of the season. The freshman was able to clear a NCAA Division II provisional bar of 6'-8" (2.05-meters) and placed third in the meet. He ranks 18th in Division II.

Trivett Jones won the men's pole vault by clearing a bar of 16'-8.75" (5.10-meters). Trever Larson improved on his season best bar in the pole vault. The freshman cleared 16'-00.75" (4.90-meters) for fourth to improve his NCAA Division II provisional mark. He moves up to No. 17 in Division II.

Heather Shaffer also improved her national mark in the women's pole vault. She was able to record a bar of 12'-2.50" (3.72-meters) and is now No. 14.

Kristin Wright nearly claimed the title in the 800-meters. She ran 2:19.84 but was clipped at the line by .02 of a second for second place. Angelica Ramirez won the afternoon section of the 1,500-meters with a time of 5:04.16.

Kelsey Warren won the women's steeplechase in a time of 11:38.03 and teammate Bridgett Cadenhead was second in 12:06.81. Reese Montgomery crossed the line in 10:06.33 in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase for second place.

Barbara Rivera won the women's javelin competition with a throw of 140'-5" (42.80-meters).

Zach Cabrera clocked a 3:59.46 in the evening section 1,500-meters to place second overall.

Thiel was second in the men's 400-meters running 52.57 with William Calvert (54.26) and Ayodeji Adedokyn (54.50) in third and fourth. Thiel ran anchor on the provisional qualifying 4x400-meter relay.

Mason Myrick finished in fourth place in the men's discus with a toss of 171'-11" (52.40-meters).

The Rams and Rambelles will return to action on Saturday, April 21 in Canyon at the West Texas A&M Invite or at the LSU Alumni Gold meet.
