CHARLOTTE, North Carolina – Angelo State's Kami Norton won the women's track & field program's 23rd national title and the Rams & Rambelles combined for five All-American honors after day two of the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
The Rambelles totaled two All-American honors and the Rams added three All-Americans. The women lead the team race with 24.5 points and the men are in seventh with 11 points overall.
"I'm proud of the effort of everyone," Angelo State head track & field coach Tom Dibbern said. "We made some mistakes but none of it was due to lack of effort or preparation. We did some great things these first two days and if we continue that trend, oth teams will be in the top 10. I am very excited about what we have tomorrow and very proud of all those finished. Congratulations to all the student-athletes and coaches who achieved All-American and National Champion status. They should be very proud."
Norton won the program's fourth heptathlon title with a score of 5,336 points. Tied for the lead after the first day, Norton had the best long jump of the competition with a mark of 20'-00.50" (6.11-meters) for 883 points. She added 520 points in the javelin and 812 points in the 800-meters. She is the third Rambelle to win a heptathlon title joining Aisha Adams (2009, 2010) and Amy Bippert (1997) and the fifth female since 2009 to win the pentathlon and heptathlon in the same season.
Harry Maslen and Dragan Pesic picked up 11 points for the Rams in the decathlon. Maslen scored 7,311 points to finish in third overall and Pesic finished with a personal best of 7,236 points for fourth place. Pesic won the 1,500-meters, the final event of the competition, in a time of 4:23.63 while Malsen scored 839 points in the 110-meter hurdles.
Trenadey Scott picked up first team All-American honors and two points for the Rambelles. The sophomore had a seasonal-best jump of 40'-9" (12.42-meters) on her final attempt of the competition which was good for seventh.
Mason Myrick earned his first All-American honor of his career. The senior recorded his best throw of 171'-3" (52.20-meters) which was the second of his series. It was good for ninth and second team All-American honors.
The men's 4x400-meter relay of Tyler Welch, Deandre Wade, Nicholas King and Ben Thiel ran a seasonal-best time of 3:09.65 to place second in their heat and grab an automatic qualifying spot in the final. It was the third fastest time of the preliminaries.
Norton later ran the 100-meter hurdles, her 10th event of the championships, and finished in 14th with a time of 14.22.
Jordan Nash placed 14th in the women's heptathlon with a score of 4,102 points.Â

The Rams & Rambelles will get an early start on Saturday with the men's javelin starting at 12:15 p.m.
