SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State women's basketball team will look to remain undefeated in conference play this weekend as they take on Eastern New Mexico and #2/3 West Texas A&M.
This season, the team has been led by preseason conference player of the year Marquita Daniels, who is averaging 16 points and six rebounds per contest. She also leads the team in assists with 37 and in steals with 34. Her 34 steals also lead the Lone Star Conference. De'Anira Moore has also been incredibly productive, averaging 15.2 points and 8.3 rebounds on the year. Her rebounding average ranks in the top five in the Lone Star Conference. Dezirae Hampton has also averaged double figures this season with 14.8 points per game. She also averages 6.2 rebounds and is second on the team in both assists and steals.
Maria Delgado, Asia Davis, Essence Johnson, and Catara Samuel have also been strong contributors this season. Delgado is averaging 9.6 points and 6.6 rebounds per game while shooting 38 percent from the three point line. Davis has provided a steady presence at the point guard position and is averaging 8.7 points and 3.2 rebounds per contest. Johnson is coming off a career high 18 point performance and is averaging six points and 4.4 rebounds per game, and Samuel averages 5.3 points and 2.9 rebounds per contest.
Eastern New Mexico comes into the game with a record of 9-3 (4-0 Lone Star Conference) and is currently third in the LSC standings.
West Texas A&M comes into the game with an undefeated record and is ranked top three in the country in both major polls. The Lady Buffs are currently first in the conference standings.
