ODESSA – The Angelo State men's basketball team came back from a halftime deficit to defeat UT Permian Basin 95-91 Thursday evening. The Rams improve to 11-4 (4-2) with the victory.
Antonio Singleton continued his recent hot streak and led the Rams with 21 points and four rebounds while shooting 5-10 from the three point line. Ronald Bell had an excellent second half and finished with 16 points, five rebounds, and three steals. Kiair Crouch and Daron Mims both finished with 11 points while Paul Williams and James Kirksey had 10. Williams finished 3-7 from the three point line while Kirksey recorded three steals in the contest.
Marcel Pettway and Josh Boutte were also key contributors in this game. Pettway finished with seven points and six rebounds while Boutte had six points and nine rebounds. Six of his rebounds were on the offensive glass, gifting ASU a few extra possessions.
The game was a back and forth affair throughout, and the Rams trailed by one at the half. Early in the second half, the Rams had a sequence where Singleton hit two threes, Mims hit a three, Bell had a layup, and Mims made yet another layup which propelled them to a six point lead. From there on out the game was fast paced, with both teams making shot after shot. ASU was able to make just enough to win and sealed the game on a fastbreak dunk by Ronald Bell off a steal from James Kirksey with less than 15 seconds left.
The Rams will be in action again on Saturday as they face Western New Mexico.
