After Texas A&M-Kingsville scored the first basket of the game, the Rams quickly tied the score and never looked back, finishing the first half on a 10-3 run to lead by seven points at the break. As the second half began, the Rams scored nine quick points before the first media timeout and cruised the rest of the way, with their lead never dipping below seven points for the remainder of the contest.
One key to this dominant second half was the improved free throw shooting by the Rams. After shooting just 12-22 from the line in the first half, the team converted a much higher percentage of free throws in the second half while shooting 22-27 from the line. The 34 free throws made and 49 attempted marked a season high.
For the game, the Javelinas actually outshot the Rams from the field, but the Rams held them to just 11 percent shooting from three point range. The Javelinas also made just 19 free throws in comparison to the Rams' 34. Additionally, the Rams outrebounded the Javelinas 49-33.
The Rams will be in action again next week at home as they take on Eastern New Mexico Thursday evening in the Junell Center.
