LAREDO, TX – Following an explosive series against Colorado School of Mines that resulted in a split, the Rams, now 2-2, travel to Laredo to face off in a three game series against the Dust Devils of Texas A&M – International. Currently a member of the Heartland Conference, the 1-2 Dust Devils will become a conference opponent of the Rams in the conference merge occurring in the fall of 2019.
Warning: Flammable
The Rams' lineup showed how lethal it can be in the series against the Orediggers, putting 43 runs on the board in just four games. Although too early to make a true judgment based on the statistics, this lineup currently leads the Lone Star Conference with a team .438 AVG. With 42 RBIs, Angelo State also leads second place West Texas A&M by 8 RBIs.
He Did What?
Josh Elvir led the offensive effort for the Rams in an impressive performance that landed him the LSC Hitter of the Week award. The Kemah native hit at a .750 clip, with nine hits, two doubles, four homeruns, and thirteen RBIs in just 12 at bats. While batting eighth in the lineup, Elvir's presence was one that forced Oredigger pitchers to maintain their guard throughout the entire lineup.
Took the Left in Albuquerque
Riley Peterson was also on fire throughout the home opener, and now acts as the proud owner of a .600 AVG. and .600 on base percentage. Peterson fell just short of the cycle in the last game of the series against Mines, hitting two singles, two doubles, and a triple. The second of the New Mexico native's doubles, which looked like the homerun he would need to complete the cycle, brought fans out of their seats, but unfortunately fell just a couple feet shy of crossing the top of the left field fence.
Deep Waters
There were five other Rams who hit over .300 with at least 10 at bats.
Game 1 of the series will be played at noon of Friday, February 8. The Ram's schedule can be viewed
