INDIANAPOLIS, IN – The Angelo State Rams continue to receive recognition for their performances this year, earning the official #1 South-Central regional ranking from the NCAA during the same week that they were recognized by the NCBWA as the #1 team in the country. The Rams will also finish up conference play this week at home as they take on the Texas A&M – Kingsville Javelinas starting on Friday, April 26th at 6:30.
Regional Rankings
The Rams are joined in the South-Central rankings by #2 Colorado Mesa, #3 Lubbock Christian, #4 West Texas A&M, a tie for #5 by Colorado School of Mines and Oklahoma Christian, #7 Dixie State, and #8 Texas A&M – Kingsville.
The Rams split their series against the #5 Orediggers in February in a high-scoring 76 run four game bout. They then dropped two out of three to the Lubbock Christian Chaparrals before taking three out of four games from the Javelinas, and then splitting a road series with West Texas A&M.
National Rankings
Angelo State swapped places with UC San Diego to take the #1 spot in the NCBWA poll this past week. Tampa, St. Cloud State, North Greenville, and Colorado Mesa also made climbs in the poll. The South-Central Region is nationally represented by Angelo State, Colorado Mesa, West Texas A&M, and Colorado School of Mines. Lubbock Christian dropped out of the poll from number 23, but are still receiving votes. The biggest jump in the poll was made by Catawba who jumped to number 18 after only receiving votes the week before.
This Week's Series
The Rams and Javelinas will face off again this weekend in a four game series that's flag shipped by the Friday single game contest for Firework Night. Fans will be treated to a pyrotechnic display following the game.
As mentioned before, the Rams took three out of four games from the Javelinas at their home field in March. Angelo State is 27-25 since 2007 against Kingsville, and after winning eight straight games against the Javelinas from 2007-2009, it has been a back and forth battle between the two.
Those who cannot make it out to the game will be able to watch on Suddenlink channel 6 through RamTV or on the angelosports.com online stream. Fans can also listen on 1260 KKSA or the live audio link provided on angelosports.com as well.
