ASU Athletics Graduates 62 Athletes

SAN ANGELO, Texas – A total of 62 current or former student-athletes and staff would have received their degrees earlier this month in the Stephens Arena at the Junell Center. Spring graduation is set to take place in August.

The department will be represented by volleyball (2), golf (2), men's basketball (7), women's basketball (2), baseball (8), women's track (3), football (9), soccer (2), women's tennis (4), softball (3), men's track (10), athletic trainers (3), and student/graduate assistants (7).

Representing the Rambelle volleyball team are Sundara Chinn and Haley Coulter. Both ladies helped the team to a Lone Star Conference Championship Title this past season.
Chinn played for the Blue and Gold from 2017-19. She was an Offensive Player of the Week selection several times and earned one Defensive Player of the Week honor. She was selected to the LSC All-Academic Team in 2017 and earned First Team All-Conference selections in 2018 and 2019. She tallied 287 kills and 699 attacks this past season and was vital on the defense with 81 digs, 67 block assists and four solo blocks. Coulter played one season for the Belles and registered 202 kills and 676 total attacks. She was huge on the defense with 335 digs, 23 block assists, and three solo blocks.

The women's golf team is represented by Kensi Chowning and Amy Howard. Chowning played three seasons with the ASU golf team. She shot a career-best round of 80 in her first season with the Rambelles. She was selected to the LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll. Howard competed for three years for ASU and averaged a career-best 77.8 tournament scoring average in her final season and had a career best finish of fifth place. She also earned LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll honors.

The men's basketball team graduates seven current and former players including Michael Kirkland, Yildon Mendoza, Camron Reedus, Marcel Pettway, Andres Ibarguen, Collin Turner, and Jeremy Hayes.

Kirkland played three years at Angelo State. He played in seven games in his freshman outing and five games this past season. Mendoza played one season for the Rams and scored 25 points and grabbed 19 rebounds. Reedus helped the Blue and Gold reach the South Central Regional Tournament and the semifinals of the Lone Star Conference tournament. He averaged 9.8 points per game and was named to the All-Region Team and was named to the LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll. Pettway appeared in 55 games for the Rams in his career. He tallied his first double double against Texas A&M-International, scoring a career-high 12 points and grabbing a career-high 12 rebounds. Pettway also earned All-Region Team honors. Andres Ibarguen was a big asset to the Rams on both sides of the net as he led the conference in shooting percentage with a .684. He notched 13 double doubles, averaging 14.3 points and 10.4 rebounds per game. He was a Dave Campbell Texas Basketball selection, Second Team All-Conference, All-South Central Regional team, All-South Central Regional Second Team, and an LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll selection. Ibarguen was also a part of leading the Rams to the semifinals at the LSC tournament and making the Regional tournament. Turner led the Ram defense and broke several school and LSC program records in the final weeks of the season. He tied the ASU and LSC Championship scoring record with 47 points against Lubbock Christian in the quarterfinals of the tournament. He also broke the records for steals (9), free throws made (21), and free throws attempted (25). He was named to the LSC All-Tournament Team, the All-South Central Regional Team, and was selected to the Second Team All-Conference. Hayes played in 19 games for the Blue and Gold. He averaged 14.1 points per game.

Belle basketball graduates two student-athletes, including Catara Samuel and Perrine Manoury. Samuel played in 60 games for ASU, making 33 starts and scored a career 568 points. She was a LSC Third Team All-Conference selection. Manoury played in 31 games in her career and scored a career-high 11 points this past year. She was also named to the LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll.

The ASU Ram baseball team graduates eight players and are represented by Carson Childers, Nick Novak, Jacob Boston, Jake Morgan, Austin Thomason, Brad Mathiowetz, Austin Weaver, and Nick Coffman.

Childers ended his career with a 5-0 record with five saves, 22 hits, 24 walks, and 56 strikeouts through 44.1 innings of work. Childers earned Pitcher of the week honors once in 2018. He was named to the LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll this past season. Novak has been a valuable asset to the Rams offense. Novak was named LSC Freshman of the Year in 2017 and has earned several more awards, including All-American selection, Preseason Player of the Year and First Team All-Conference twice. He earned Hitter of the week honors on February 13, 2018. He posted a career-high .353 batting average in his sophomore campaign. Boston played two seasons with the Rams. He earned Hitter of the Week honors on April 4, 2018 and was a First Team All-Conference selection. He posted a career-high batting average of .358 in his first season with ASU. Morgan was a part of the baseball program for four years but saw action in his last two seasons pitching 11.1 innings total. He threw 14 strikeouts against seven walks and gave up 15 hits. He was a Hollands Award recipient in 2018. Thomason played three seasons with the Rams, pitching 14 innings. He threw 15 strikes and four balls. He was also selected to the LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll. Mathiowetz was a key component to the Blue and Gold offense. He posted a career-high .371 batting average this past season. Overall in his career with ASU, he registered 233 at-bats, 85 hits, 57 runs, 18 doubles, four triples, nine home runs, and 69 RBI. He was a First Team All-Conference selection in 2018 and he earned Hitter of the week honors twice in his career. Weaver played two seasons for the Rams but saw action in one season. He pitched 3.2 innings giving up five hits. He threw four strikeouts against one ball. Coffman rounds out the Ram graduates as he posted a 3.66 ERA. Through 39.1 innings of work in one season, he struck out 41 batters against 20 walks. He owned a 6-0 record with one save. Coffman was a Second Team All-Conference selection.

The Rambelle track and field team graduates three of its top athletes, including Faith Roberson, Ophelie De Oliveira, and Trenadey Scott. Roberson earned Outstanding Female Athlete after being a high point scorer at the LSC Indoor Championships. She was named to the First Team All-Conference and earned Track Athlete of the Week (2/5/20). Roberson is a Second Team All-American in the 400m hurdles and was the LSC outdoor champion in the 400m hurdles and earned another First Team All-Conference nod. Scott, a two-sport athlete at ASU, is a two time All-American in triple jump, a two time Second Team All-American in triple jump and a multiple event scorer for two LSC Outdoor Championship Teams. She was selected to the First Team All-Conference for outdoor in the 2018 season and earned a First Team All-Conference selection for indoor this past season. She was a Second Team All-Conference selection for outdoor in 2019 and earned her first Field Athlete of the Week honor on January 22, 2019. De Oliveira was named to the Second Team All-Conference for outdoor in 2019 and the All-Academic Team. She was also named to the LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll in the fall of the 2019-20 academic year.

The Ram football team graduates nine student-athletes, including Steven Staten, A.J. Wozniak, Spencer Gilbert, Dezmond Green, Tashani Bibbs, Darrick Dickerson Jr., Hunter Kyle, Paul Jones, and Payne Sullins.

Staten played in 15 games in his career with the Blue and Gold, tallying three receptions for 21 yards with one touchdown. Wozniak was a three time All-Conference Honorable Mention selection. He played in 30 games and recorded two tackles, one solo and one assisted, in his final season. Gilbert played in 22 games and played on offense and special teams. In his career, he registered 35 rush attempts for 184 yards and five touchdowns. He caught five receptions for 62 yards with one touchdown. He added in three tackles and one kick return attempt. Green played in nine games this past season and tallied one rush attempt for four yards and one solo tackle. Bibbs played two seasons with the Rams on offense and special teams. He saw action in 23 games and caught 77 receptions for 763 yards with three touchdowns. He returned 19 kickoffs for 312 yards with a career-long of 31 yards. He added in 47 punt returns for 339 yards with a career-long of 60 yards. He also had two rush attempts for 29 yards and added in five tackles for the defense. Dickerson played in 30 games through three seasons with the Rams. He recorded 137 total tackles, 90 solo and 47 assisted, nine tackles for loss for 35 yards, four sacks for 28 yards, three interceptions, 16 pass breakups, and two forced fumbles. He was an All-Conference Honorable Mention following the 2018 season and earned Second Team All-Conference Defense this past season. Kyle was a member of the ASU football team for four years but saw the field for three seasons. He was an All-Conference Honorable Mention selection twice and joined Dickerson on the Second Team All-Conference Defense this past season. He registered 287 tackles, 26 tackles for loss for 71 yards, six sacks for 22 yards and six interceptions. Sullins played two seasons in a Blue and Gold uniform and earned All-Conference Honorable Mention, All-Academic, and LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll honors. He earned Offensive Player of the Week honors in his first season and finished his career with 4,915 yards with 34 touchdowns. He added in 405 rushing yards with five touchdowns in 23 games of action. Paul Jones rounds out the football graduating class.

The soccer team graduates two in Scott and Ally Warren. Scott, a member of the ASU women's track and field team, also played for the soccer team. She was named Forward and Player of the Year following her sophomore campaign. She earned Offensive Player of the Week honors four times throughout her career and was a First Team All-Conference selection twice. She recorded a career-high eight assists in her senior year. She scored 14 game winning goals and finished with 40 goals in her career and 14 game winning goals. Warren played four years for the Belles but had the most success her senior year, scoring a career-high four goals, including two game winning goals. She was selected to the LSC All-Academic Team in 2017.

The women's tennis team is represented by Zoe Gubbels, Maria Delgadillo, Melanie Dreux, and Lucie Maitrot. Gubbels was named to the LSC All-Conference Team Singles and the All-Academic Team in 2019. In the second season of the programs revival, Gubbels shared the LSC Sportsmanship Player of the Year award, earned Honorable Mention for doubles and was the ASU Hollands Award winner. She has been named to the LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll three times and earned her first ever Athlete of the Week award this past season. Delgadillo was a two time All-Conference Team singles honoree and a three-time LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll member. In 2019, she earned the ASU Hollands Award. Druex and Maitrot are both three-time LSC Commissioner Honor Roll members.
 
Belle softball graduates three players and are represented by Megan Gordon, Meagan Hill, and Victoria Vasquez. Gordon played four years with the team, notching 146 plate appearances with 40 hits, 47 runs, 15 RBI, and posted a career batting average of .274 through 128 games played. She was an Elite 90 Award Winner by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA), a LSC All-Academic Team and Commissioner's Honor Roll selection. Hill was dominant in the circle for the Rambelles as she posted a career 3.32 ERA and a 25-11 record. She registered 179 strikeouts against 88 walks. This past season she pitched three complete games and notched her first career no-hitter. She was a Second Team All-Conference selection and named to the LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll and All-Academic Team. Vasquez played two seasons with the Blue and Gold, pitching 93.1 innings and struck out 77 batters. She held an 8-3 record with four saves and a 4.43 ERA.

The men's track team is represented by Jorge Hernandez, Chevy Robertson, Ezekiel Vaughan, Alexandros Spyridonidis, Maxime Lapeyrie, William Calvert, Trivett Jones, Preston Brooks, Levi Britting, and Michael Rodriguez.

Hernandez competed for one year for ASU and held a career-best finish of fourth place in the 10K at the Outdoor LSC Championships with a time of 32:55.14. Robertson competed all four years for the Rams and earned Men's Indoor Track and Field Academic Athlete of the Year in 2017 and was placed on the All-Academic Team in 2018. He was named to the LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll for 2019-20. He also was the winner of the Hollands Award for Cross Country in 2019. Vaughan was a multiple event scorer for two LSC Outdoor Championships Team and was a Third Team All-Conference selection for the Outdoor season in 2019. He also was a recipient of the Hollands Award in 2019 for track. Spyridonidis was a two time National Champion in the decathlon and added in National Runner-Up in the hepthatlon. He was a multiple event scorer on the Outdoor LSC Championship Team and the NCAA Runner-Up Team. He was named to the Indoor and Outdoor First Team All-Conference in 2019 and a LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll honoree. Lapeyrie, a provisional qualifier and scorer on the LSC Outdoor Championship Team, competed two years for the Blue and Gold. He earned First Team All-Conference honors after helping the Rams to its first ever Indoor LSC Title. He was a Second Team All-Conference member for Indoor and Outdoor in 2019 and was a member of the 2019 LSC All-Academic Team and the 2019-20 LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll. Calvert had a career-best finish of third in the 400 hurdles with a best time of 52.82 at the LSC Outdoor Championships in 2019. He earned Third Team All-Conference honors following the 2019 outdoor season. He was a provisional qualifier in the 400 hurdles and a multiple event scorer on two LSC Championship Teams. Jones was a key component to the Ram program as he ranked nationally in pole vault and helped the Rams to its first ever Indoor LSC Title this past season. Jones was a First Team All-Conference selection four times (two indoor and two outdoor), a Second Team All-Conference selection (indoor), a three-time Second Team All-American in pole vault, an NCAA All-American, and a multiple event scorer on two LSC Outdoor Championship teams. He earned three Field Athlete of the Week honors (two indoor and one outdoor) as well. Brooks was a member of the ASU Cross Country squad and at the beginning of the 2020 outdoor season, he set a career-best in the 10K at the Trinity Invite with a time of 33:50.12 and a third place finish. Britting competed in pole vault for the Blue and Gold. He was named to the LSC All-Academic Team twice (one indoor and one outdoor) and the 2019 LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll. Rodriguez rounds out the men's track and field graduates as he was a provisional qualifier in the triple jump and a multiple event scorer on two LSC Outdoor Championship teams. He earned Second Team All-Conference honors in indoor and outdoor in 2019 and two Third Team All-Conference honors for indoor.

Working hard to keep these athletes in top shape were athletic trainers Molly Earles, Ashley Kemp, and Analise Martinez. Seven graduate assistants will also be earning their degrees with volleyball's Audrey Fragniere, softball's Brooke Mangold, sports information's Garrett Powers, baseball's Kenton Schroter, track's Taylor Hall, Annette Morton, and Adrian Dilworth.
