BIRMINGHAM, ALA. – Angelo State opened up competition in the NCAA Division II Indoor National Championship meet on Thursday.
Decio Andrade and
Sara Ramos competed for the Rams and Rambelles in the men's and women's indoor weight throw respectively.
Andrade made Angelo State history in the weight throw, placing second at the meet with a distance of 71 feet 5.25 inches, or 21.77m. His mark broke the school record and the Lone Star Conference all-time record of 20.10m which he had set back at the LSC Indoor Championships back in February. His second-place finish also earned him NCAA first team All-American Honors.
Ramos, competing in the weight throw, tossed a distance of 14.89m in her first attempt, placing 12
th overall.
"I am very proud of the way Decio competed. He showed a lot by getting to the finals after fouling his first two throws," said Head Coach Thomas Dibbern. "Then showed even more by hitting a big throw on his last attempt to move way up in the standings. That is a conference all-time best that will be tough to beat."
The Rams and Rambelles continue competition at the Indoor National Championship meet tomorrow and Saturday.
