The No. 2 Ranked Angelo State football team is set for a top 10 matchup in the Quarterfinals of the 2022 NCAA Division II Football Championship as the Rams take on 10
th-ranked Colorado School of Mines on Saturday at LeGrand Stadium at 1
st Community Credit Union Field.
A rematch of last year's quarterfinal contest, the Rams will look to advance to the semifinals of the NCAA championship for the first time since the 1989 season.

The Rams evened the series against the Orediggers during the regular season, defeating Mines 30-27 on the road in overtime with a 36-yard field goal by
Asa Fuller. Mines took the first win last year, defeating the Rams in the quarterfinals of the 2021 NCAA DII Championship in Golden, Colo. This will be the first time the Orediggers travel to San Angelo.
SCOUTING THE OREDIGGERS:
Path to the Quarterfinals:
Mines entered the playoffs as the No. 2 seed in Super Region 4, advancing to the playoffs for the fourth consecutive season. Mines defeated CSU Pueblo 45-24 in the Opening Round of the championship. In week two of the playoffs, the Orediggers held on to a victory over three-seeded Minnesota State, winning 48-45 after a 30-yard field goal made it a two-score game before a late touchdown from the Mavericks.
- The Orediggers enter the quarterfinal round with an 11-2 record, finishing 9-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
- Mines is led by Quarterback John Matocha who has tallied 4,038 passing yards this season with 41 touchdowns and six interceptions.
- On the ground, Michael Zeman has 1,143 rushing yards with 21 touchdowns.
- The Orediggers rank third in Division II in total offensive yards at 489.8 and hold the No. 1 scoring offense with an average of 47.2 points per game.
- Jaden Williams is the leading tackler for Mines with 55 tackles on the season while Nolan Reeve has collected nine sacks.
MAKING HISTORY:
The Rams have advanced to the Quarterfinals for the second year in a row for the first time in program history. After a 33-7 win over Bemidji State, ASU set a new NCAA program record in wins in a single season with 12.
DOMINATING DEFENSIVELY:
The Rams hold the No. 1 defense in all of Division II, allowing only 214.6 yards of offense per game. ASU is fourth in passing yards allowed, third in turnover margin, fourth in points allowed (11.3), first in interceptions, and first in defensive touchdowns.
LSC POSTSEASON ACCOLADES:
The Rams landed 21 players on the LSC All-Conference teams while earning five special awards as
Jeff Girsch was named Coach of the Year, Omayebu earned his second straight Offensive Back of the Year honor,
Jacob Long and
Weston Bauer were named Offensive and Defensive Lineman of the Year, and
Andrew Pitts earned Defensive Back of the Year.
PASSING THE CENTURY MARK:
For the second season in a row,
Nate Omayebu III has run for over 1,000 yards. He has tallied 1,156 yards this season along with seven touchdowns.
