Rams Host Lubbock Christian in Top 25 Matchup

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The 17th – ranked Angelo State baseball team will return home this weekend as the Rams host No. 23 Lubbock Christian in a four-game series at Foster field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium.
 
LAST WEEK:
The Rams earned their second sweep of the season after taking all four games against St. Mary's. ASU tallied 49 runs in four games against the Rattlers while only giving up seven runs. Justin Lee led the Rams with nine RBIs while Benjamin Elder and Matthew Sykes combined for a shut out in game two.

SERIES HISTORY:
All-Time Series: ASU leads the all-time series 24-14
Last Meeting: May. 22, 2021: ASU 22, LCU 3 – LSC Tournament Championship, San Angelo, Texas
ASU has been dominant in the series against the Chaps in recent history, winning nine of the last 11 matchups while going 24-14 all-time. The last meeting between these two teams came last year in the final of the LSC tournament where the Rams claimed their fourth title with a 10-3 victory at home.
 
SCOUTING LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN:
The Chaps have had a very strong start to their season, holding an 11-3 overall record while going 9-3 in Lone Star contests. LCU is coming off a two-game series over New Mexico Highlands, winning 17-5 and 10-0 in their only nonconference games. The Rams and Chaps have faced three of the same LSC opponents to start the season with LCU sweeping Oklahoma Christian and taking one loss to UAFS and the Rattlers.
 
The long ball has been a strong part of the LCU offense, ranking first in the LSC with 22 home runs which is the 14th most in Division II. The Chaps are 20th in the country in batting average at .333 which ranks second in the conference while Eduardo Acosta leads LCU with a .447 batting average while Larry Leitha has collected 17 RBIs.
 
LCU is seventh in the Lone Star in team ERA at 6.03 while Peyton Hutson holds a 3-0 record in five appearances with a 4.40 ERA.
 
QUICK HITS:
-The Rams are batting .332 as a team which ranks third in the LSC.
-ASU has scored 145 runs this season which is second in the conference and ninth in Division II.
-The Rams have stolen 56 bases this season, ranking third overall in the country.
-Justin Lee leads the LSC in batting average at .556 while Austin Beck is third at .490.
-Jackson Hardy is third in the conference in runs scored with 22.
-Benjamin Elder holds the lowest ERA in the LSC at 2.11 while Jake Rogers is first in the country in wins with five.
