Rams Square Off Against #5 UT Tyler in Quarterfinals of the LSC Tournament

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The sixth-ranked Angelo State baseball team will defend its Lone Star Conference title at home as the Rams host the final site of the LSC Tournament beginning Thursday against the fifth-seeded UT Tyler.
 
The double-elimination tournament will play two games on Thursday with #2 West Texas A&M facing #6 St. Edward's at 2 p.m., before ASU's game against the Patriots at 6 p.m. Saturday will have three games starting at 11 a.m., while Saturday's championship game will start at 1 p.m.
 
LAST WEEK:
The Rams advanced to the quarterfinals after a two-game sweep of St. Mary's in the opening round of the LSC tournament. ASU scored 38 runs in both games combined while along 10 runs in all. The Rams clinched the best of three series with a 23-5 victory in game two.

All-Time Series: ASU leads the series 4-3
Last Meeting: Feb. 7, 2022: ASU, 4-3 – San Angelo, Texas
The Rams hold a one game lead in the series over the Patriots as both teams split the regular-season series at the start of the year. The Patriots swept the doubleheader in San Angelo while ASU forced the tie in game four with a 5-4 victory.
 
SCOUTING UT TYLER:
The Patriots entered the tournament as the fifth overall seed, defeating fourth-seeded Texas A&M – Kingsville in the opening round to advance. They played all three games, winning game one 8-7 and game three 19-6 while falling in the second game by a score of 21-10.
 
UTT holds the best team ERA in the Lone Star .470 while holding opponents to the lowest batting average at .263. Dylan Blomquist leads the Patriots with a 4.14 ERA through 67 1/3 innings and holds an 8-1 overall record. Blomquist has also collected the most strikeouts for the Patriots with 71.
 
At the plate, the Patriots are hitting .305 as a team with Kyle McShaffry leading with a .373 average along with 52 RBIs on the season. UTT has three other batters with an average over .300, including Carson Cox at .363 and Ethan Bodgood at .322.
