Rambelles Win Game Two in Extras to Split with No. 25 Oklahoma Christian

Oklahoma City, Okla. – The Angelo State softball team split their doubleheader against No. 25 Oklahoma Christian on Saturday afternoon, falling behind early in game one and not recovering as they lost 7-2 before bouncing back to beat the Eagles 4-2 in nine innings to cap off the day.

Lindsey Evans kicked off the scoring on the day with a first-inning solo home run, her ninth of the season.

However, the hosts would push across two runs in the first and three in the second to take a 5-2 lead, one they would hold for the rest of the game.

Cheyenne Floyd pitched 4.2 innings in relief of Genesis Armendariz, allowing five hits and two runs while striking out four.

Ashlyn Lerma led off the second game with a single, stealing second and scoring on a Martinez sacrifice fly.

The Eagles tied the game in the second inning before Paxton Scheurer's RBI single regifted the Rambelles a 2-1 lead in the third.

The Eagles pushed across a run in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game and push the Rambelles into extra innings once again.

The game stayed tied through the eighth before Maleya Burns and Ashton Dirner led the ninth inning off with back-to-back singles; both would score on a Lerma single, as well as an Eagle error occurring on the same play.

After her performance in game one in relief, Floyd picked up the win as she pitched the final 1.2 innings in relief of starter Torrey Hogan, who pitched the first 7.1 innings, only allowing two runs across five hits and one walk while striking out three.

Lerma went 5-for-5 at the plate, scoring a pair of runs and driving in the two deciding runs. Burns and Ashton McMillan each went 2-for-4 from the plate as well.

The Rambelles are now 18-10 on the season and 10-7 in conference play. The rubber match of the series will take place tomorrow at 1 p.m.
