Sierra Sanz, Rambelles Impress with Second Place Finish at the Midwestern State Invitational

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – After over a month break from tournament play, the Angelo State women's golf team burst back onto the scene with a second-place finish at the Midwestern State Invitational.
 
The Rambelles finished second amongst the six Lone Star Conference schools, beating Texas A&M International (3rd), Oklahoma Christian (4th), Midwestern State (5th), and Cameron (7th). Second-ranked DBU would take home the tournament title, besting the Blue and Gold by 22 strokes.
 
DAY 1
  • A first-round 306 saw the Rambelles sit in second, only five strokes off the leader's DBU (301) and three strokes ahead of third-place Texas A&M International (309).
  • Laura Klimova turned in a great round one in her first action of the season, shooting a plus-2, 74, leaving her in a three-way tie for the lead.
  • Maria Sierra Sanz and Patrizia Schaefer both finished the first round plus-5, 77.
  • The Rambelles stayed consistent in round two, shooting 307, finding themselves in third to end the day, one stroke behind second-place TAMIU.
  • Sierra Sanz had the best round of day one, shooing minus-1, 71 to see herself in sole possession of second place heading into day two.
  • Klimova dropped to 10th after struggling in round two, shooting plus-8, 80.
 
DAY 2
  • The Blue and Gold stayed the course in the third and final round at the Midwestern State Invitational, shooting 311.
  • Sierra Sanz would make a late run, chasing her second tournament victory of the season, but would finish second, shooting plus-1, 73.
  • Klimova would rebound with a third-round plus-6, 78 to finish in eighth place in the field of 59.
  • Schaefer would round out the Rambelles top-20 finishes as she claimed a tie for 16th.
  • The Rambelles would finish with the most pars in the tournament, 157.
  • Klimova was one of two players at the tournament who earned an eagle as she was the top performer on par-5s shooting minus-3.
  • Sierra Sanz would individually finish with the most pars of any player with 37 in the three rounds.

The Rambelles are back in action next week with a trip to Tyler, Texas, and the King Alfred Spring Invitational on the cards at the Cascades Country Club scheduled for Mar. 20-21.
