Sierra Sanz, Rambelles Claim Individual and Team Titles in Tyler

TYLER, Texas – After completing three rounds of play at the Cascades Country Club, the Angelo State women's golf team finished first, while Maria Sierra Sanz captured her second individual title of the season.
 
The Rambelles finished top of the six Lone Star Conference schools who competed in Tyler, claiming the tie breaker over St. Mary's with the advantage in the total strokes of the three dropped scores for each round. St. Mary's would finish runner up after the tiebreaker, the Rambelles ended up topping UT Tyler, Midwestern State, Lubbock Christian, and Cameron outright.
 
DAY 1
  • The Rambelles found themselves in second after posting a solid plus-20, 304 in the first round at the Cascades Country Club.
  • The Blue and Gold were behind St. Mary's who carded a great first round, shooting plus-13, 297.
  • Sierra Sanz had the best first round for Angelo State, carding a plus-1, 72 after the first 18 holes.
  • A second round plus-6, 290 placed the Blue and Gold five strokes ahead heading into the final round on day two.
  • The 290 was the best single round score for the Rambelles this season.
  • Patrizia Schaefer highlighted the second round with a minus-2, 69, the second-best round in the tournament to this point (Julia Kerrigan, UTT, minus-4, 67).
 
DAY 2
  • The Rambelles turned in a plus-10 294 to capture a share of the King Alfred Invitational title. St. Mary's posted the best single round of the tournament in round three, carding a plus-4, 288 to claw their way back into a share of the title on the final day.
  • Sierra Sanz recorded her first round under par at the tournament, shooting a minus-1, 70 to capture the individual title, her second of the season.
  • Ozlyan Juarez put in three good rounds and capped it off with a plus-1, 72 to finish in a tie for fourth in the 46-player field.
  • Skyler Strube also carded her best of the three rounds, finishing plus-4, 75 in the last round to finish 26th.
  • The Rambelles led the pack on both par-4s and par-5s, scoring an average 4.30 on fours and 5.07 on fives.
  • The Blue and Gold also finished tied for first in the birdie category, sinking 34 across the three rounds.
  • Sierra Sanz led all players on par-3s, averaging a 2.94, while also finishing in a tie for the most pars at the tournament with 37.
