Wichita Falls, Texas – The Angelo State softball team's doubleheader against Midwestern State saw the Rambelles claim game one 10-1 in a five-inning run-rule before the hosts took the finale 9-8.
Ashton McMillan led off the second inning in game one with a single, eventually scoring the game's first run on a
Bailey Martinez groundout.
Later in the inning and with a runner on base,
Maleya Burns delivered her second home run of the season to make the score 3-0.
Paxton Scheurer drew a walk, McMillan singled, and a pitch hit
Keilei Garcia to load the bases; all three would score on a Burns single up the middle, with a Mustang error on the play.
The score remained 6-0 until the fifth inning when the Rambelles tacked on four more runs.
Scheurer led the inning off with a single; her pinch runner,
Katie Burris, would score on a
Lindsey Evans home run, the seventh of the season for the centerfielder.
Burns doubled in the ninth run for the Rambelles, and
Tatiana Trotter singled in the final run for the Rambelles.
The Mustangs scratched across a run in the bottom of the fifth but could not prevent the run-rule victory for the Rambelles; it is the Rambelles' second-straight 10-1 victory over the Mustangs, with both coming in five innings.
Burns finished the game 3-for-3 from the plate, scoring a pair of runs and driving in five runs; it is the second-straight game the Rambelles have had a player record five RBIs, with Trotter doing so yesterday.
Ashlyn Lerma finished the game 2-for-4 from the leadoff spot with three stolen bases.
Torrey Hogan collected her fourth win of the season, allowing two hits and three walks while striking out six in four innings. In relief,
Cheyenne Floyd pitched the final inning, recording all three of her out via the strikeout.
Lerma started game two with a single before stealing second; she would score the opening run on a Mustang error.
The Mustangs scored three runs in the first and second innings to jump to a 6-1 lead.
Martinez would single with the bases loaded in the fourth inning to plate a run; Burns, the next batter, would hit a sacrifice fly to make it 6-3.
Layni Tanner stole home in the fifth, and Martinez would lead off the sixth with a single, scoring on a groundout to bring the score to 6-5.
However, three Mustang runs in the bottom of the sixth saw them extend their lead to 9-5, and despite three runs by the Rambelles in the top of the seventh, they came up short, leaving runners on second and third base in the final frame.
In game two, McMillan led the team at the dish, going 3-for-4 with a double, while
Lindsey Evans went 2-for-4 and Martinez went 2-for-3.
The Rambelles are 14-9 on the season and 6-6 in conference play; they are back in action on Tuesday to host Texas Woman's.
