Lawton, Okla. – For only the second time this season, the Angelo State softball team suffered a sweep in Lone Star Conference action as they fell 6-1 in their regular-season finale against Cameron on a cold and windy day in the Sooner State on Saturday afternoon.
The Rambelles' only other sweep came at the hands of West Texas A&M to begin conference play just over two months ago.
For the third game in the series, the Aggies led the scoring off in the first inning with a leadoff triple scoring on a sacrifice fly.
A leadoff triple in the fourth, followed by a single, saw the hosts double their lead over the Rambelles.
The Aggies would strike for four more runs in the fifth inning to make their lead 6-0.
The Rambelles notched a run in the top of the sixth inning courtesy of a
Keilei Garcia solo home run over the left field fence, her 11
th of the season.
The Rambelles recorded only six hits, with Garcia delivering two, including the home run, and one each coming off the bats of
Paxton Scheurer,
Lindsey Evans,
Maleya Burns, and
Ashton Dirner; Dirner's hit, a fifth-inning triple, marked the only other extra-base hit for the Rambelles.
Torrey Hogan shined in relief in the circle, throwing the final two innings in relief and only allowing one hit and one unearned run.
The Rambelles finish the regular season 29-24 overall and 21-21 in conference play; the only team not to play on the final weekend of the regular season, the Rambelles wait to see where they fall in the LSC standings for the LSC Tournament, which takes place the first weekend of May.
