SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Lone Star Conference announced the all-conference teams and special awards for the 2023 baseball season as Angelo State received several honors led by
Kade Bragg who was named the LSC Pitcher of the Year.
Bragg, a junior communications major from Ennis, Texas has dominated the season, leading all of Division II in ERA at 1.07, and holds a 12-1 overall record as a starter. He has tossed 75.2 innings this season with only nine earned runs and has 98 strikeouts. He set the single-season program record in shutouts with four and held a streak of 26 straight innings without allowing a run.
For the second season in a row, Head Coach
Kevin Brooks and his staff of
Sam Mote,
Adam Foster, and
Riley Peterson were named the LSC Coaching Staff of the Year after leading the Rams to a 44-8 overall record and the regular-season title. This is the sixth time Brooks and his staff have earned the honor.
Angelo State led the way with six selections in the LSC All-Defensive Team, including junior pitcher
Aaron Munson, senior catcher
Tyler Boggs, senior first baseman
Jordan Williams, third baseman
Kamden Kelton, shortstop
Justin Harris and outfielder
Thomas Cain. Williams, who did not make an error in 251 chances at first base, becomes the first player to be on the team for four seasons.
Representing the Rams on the All-Academic Team was sophomore exercise science major,
Austin Beck. The All-Academic team is chosen by the league's sports information directors. To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must have played in at least 50 percent of the team's contests, reached sophomore athletic and academic standing, completed at least one full academic year at the nominating institution, and have a minimum 3.30 cumulative grade point average based on the 4.0 system for their entire collegiate career.
The Rams had nine total athletes earn All-Conference accolades including four First-Team honors which was the most out of any university. Bragg was named to the first team as a starting pitcher along with
Braxton Pearson while
Jacob Guerrero earned a spot as an outfielder along with
Tripp Clark as a designated hitter.
Munson and Harris were selected Second-Team All-Conference while
Scott Ellis,
Thomas Cain, and Beck were named to the third team.
