Chattanooga, Tenn. – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) released their All-American teams and special award winners this evening at the NCAA Division II Championship banquet in Chattanooga, and Angelo State softball's
Ashlyn Lerma took home a pair of honors.
Lerma earned the New Balance/NFCA Golden Shoe Award for leading Division II with 58 stolen bases this season.
Since the award's inception in 2014, Lerma has become the first player from the Lone Star Conference to win the Golden Shoe.
The Highland Village native also earned Second Team All-American honors.
This season, Lerma led the team with a .372 batting average and 61 hits; her 58 stolen bases tied the school's single-season stolen bases record.
Defensively, she recorded a .990 fielding percentage.
Earlier this year, Lerma was also named to the All-LSC First Team and the LSC All-Academic Team and earned the LSC Gold Glove for her defensive work at second base, with the senior earning those awards for the third consecutive year.
The Highland Village native finishes her ASU career ranked seventh in career on-base percentage (.472), fourth in career runs scored (187), fourth in career walks (124), and second in career stolen bases (146).
She is among two players in ASU history to have multiple 50-steal seasons.
This marks the second All-American honor for Lerma, who was named a D2CCA Honorable Mention All-American earlier today by the organization.
