Tyler, Texas – The Angelo State softball team fell on Thursday afternoon to St. Edward's in the Lone Star Conference Tournament opening round at Irwin Ballpark on the campus of UT Tyler, with the Hilltoppers claiming an 8-0, five-inning run-rule victory.
St. Edward's struck in the third inning, with a pair of walks preceding an RBI double that scored the first two runs of the ballgame.
The Hilltoppers would load the bases the next inning before a triple to right-center field cleared the bases and expand their lead to 5-0. The ninth-seeded team in the tournament would score three more runs in the inning to put the Rambelles' deficit at eight runs.
Paxton Scheurer singled in the second inning and doubled in the fifth to tally two of the Rambelles' three hits.
Keilei Garcia's single in the fourth inning was the only other hit for the Rambelles;
Maleya Burns drew a walk in the third inning and stole second base, and
Ashton McMillan reached on an error in the fifth inning for the other Rambelle runners in the game.
The Rambelles end the season with a 29-25 record and a 21-21 record in conference play.
