SAN ANGELO – In their first effort on their home court since February, the Angelo State men's basketball team defeated Arlington Baptist 101-58 on Tuesday evening inside the Junell Center – Stephens Arena.
The Rams assisted on 20 of their 34 field goals, shooting 52.3 percent from the field and 50 percent from three.
Five Rams scored in double figures, led by
Carvell Teasett's 22 points. The senior shot 6-for-8 from the field and 5-for-6 from three-point range. He converted all five of his attempts from the free-throw line and tied for the team lead with four assists.
Defensively, he grabbed three steals as the Rams forced the Patriots into 22 turnovers.
Sterling Gaston-Chapman notched a career-high in points and rebounds as he recorded the first double-double for the Rams this season. He scored 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in a team-high 30 minutes, shooting 7-for-17 from the field and 3-for-5 from three. He also assisted three times and nabbed a pair of steals.
Kaden Evans scored 17 points, with five of his makes coming from beyond the three-point line.
Shemar Smith had 13 points, making five of his seven shots from the field.
Jalen Gilmore turned in a season-high 11 points with a pair of assists.
Kendrick Delahoussaye and
Blessing Adesipe had six points apiece; Delahoussaye had four assists, two steals, and a blocked shot, while Adesipe grabbed three steals.
DJ Freeman had five points and led the team with nine rebounds; the Rams out-rebounded the Patriots 41-23.
The Rams are 2-1 on the season. They open conference play this Saturday in Odessa as they take on UT Permian Basin.
