Durango, Colo. – The Angelo State men's basketball team dropped their season opener to New Mexico Highlands 84-83 at the Conference Crossover, hosted by Fort Lewis.
The Rams shot 51.7 percent from the field and 47.8 percent from three; they also converted 12 of their 13 attempts from the free throw line.
The Cowboys outrebounded the Rams 36-34 and committed only ten turnovers to the Rams' 16. The RMAC school also converted 22 of its 31 free-throw attempts.
Carvell Teasett led the Rams in scoring, posting a new career-high for the Blue and Gold with 21 points in 23 minutes off the bench. The senior guard shot 7-for-11 from the field and made five of his eight attempts from deep. Teasett also led the Rams with five rebounds.
Kaden Evans scored 17 points and nabbed four steals in his Angelo State debut. He shot 50 percent from the field and grabbed three rebounds.
Kendrick Delahoussaye and
DJ Freeman each dropped a dozen points. Delahoussaye tied for the team lead with three assists, while Freeman recorded the Rams' lone block.
Sterling Gaston-Chapman was the fifth Ram in double figures in scoring, adding ten points in his ASU debut.
The Rams close their weekend tomorrow at 9 p.m. central time as they take on the hosts, No. 22 Fort Lewis.
