LAS VEGAS – The Angelo State men's basketball team opened their time in Las Vegas with a 61-53 win over Montana State-Billings on Thursday night inside South Point Arena.
The Rams have held opponents under 60 points in three of their last four games.
The Rams shot 38.3 percent from the field and 35.3 percent from three while holding the Yellowjackets to 32.1 percent and 19.2 percent marks from the field and three, respectively.
The Rams also held the Yellowjackets' leading scorer, Jalen Tot, in check. Tot scored only eight points on 2-for-13 shooting from the field and missed all eight of his three-point attempts.
Sterling Gaston-Chapman led the Rams in scoring with 15 points on 4-for-8 shooting from the field. He also converted all six free throw attempts as the Rams went 9-for-11 from the charity stripe. The senior guard missed out on a double-double, grabbing nine rebounds.
As a team, the Rams out-rebounded the Yellowjackets 43-34.
Kendrick Delahoussaye scored ten points in 19 minutes off the bench, including a pair of threes.
Kaden Evans and
Damonze Woods scored eight points each. Evans led the team with five assists while grabbing five rebounds, and Woods grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds. Both players recorded a block, with Evans also recording a pair of steals.
Carvell Teasett scored seven points and had a pair of assists and steals.
Blessing Adesipe had six points in nine minutes,
Shemar Smith had four points, and
Denim Dawson had three points and seven rebounds.
Despite not scoring,
Jalen Gilmore dished out three assists.
The Rams improve to 7-3 on the season. They are back in action tomorrow night against No. 10 Colorado School of Mines in Las Vegas.
