SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State men's basketball team defeated Texas A&M-Kingsville on Thursday evening inside the Junell Center – Stephens Arena by a score of 75-66.
A strong second-half performance from the Rams saw them overturn a one-point halftime deficit into a nine-point win, primarily due to a 56.5 percent shooting mark after the intermission.
The Rams also performed well from three-point range, making six of 11 attempts from deep in the second half after only converting three of their ten attempts in the first half.
Additionally, the Rams' defense held the Javelinas to 42.9 percent shooting for the match and 41.2 percent from three. In the second half, the Hogs only made two of six attempts from deep.
The Rams won the rebound battle 33-29 over the Javelinas.
Sterling Gaston-Chapman led all players with 18 points; he recorded his second double-double with 11 rebounds and set a new single-game season-high for the Rams with five assists. He shot 7-for-10 from the field and 2-for-3 from three-point range.
Damonze Woods scored a season-high 11 points on 4-for-7 shooting from the field. He grabbed a pair of rebounds and blocked a shot.
Kaden Evans scored in double figures for the fourth time this season and the second successive game with ten points on 3-for-6 shooting from three-point range. He grabbed five rebounds, his third-straight game with five or more rebounds, and recorded a pair of assists.
Kendrick Delahoussaye had nine points,
Shemar Smith added eight points and seven rebounds, and
Carvell Teasett and
Denim Dawson had six points each. Dawson's six points are a season-best for the junior.
The Rams improve to 4-2 on the season and 1-1 in LSC play. They close their weekend on Saturday at 1 p.m. when they host Texas A&M International; the Dustdevils are coming off a 72-59 win over UT Permian Basin this evening in Odessa.
