Top-Ranked Rams Baseball Open 2024 Campaign on the Road

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The top-ranked Angelo State baseball team opens the season on the road, visiting Eastern New Mexico beginning Friday, Feb. 2.
The Rams are coming off the most successful season in program history last year, claiming their third straight Lone Star Conference title on the way to winning its first NCAA Division II National Championship while setting a new program record of wins in a season with an overall record of 56-9.

The Rams are currently riding a 20-game win streak over the Greyhounds while holding a commanding lead in the all-time series at 67-20. ASU faced off against the ENMU a total of six times last season, where the Rams swept the Greyhounds to open the 2023 season and took the best of three series to eliminate them in the LSC post-season tournament.
 
SCOUTING EASTERN NEW MEXICO:
The Greyhounds are coming off a 2023 season where they finished 23-28 overall but claimed the most conference wins in program history with a 21-26 LSC record. ENMU was picked to finish 9 in the LSC Preseason Poll, collecting 188 points. Infielder Demetrio Archuleta headlines the returners for the Greyhounds where he was first on the team with a .371 batting average and second with a .964 OPS.

CONFERENCE FAVORITES:
The Rams were selected as the favorites to take the 2024 LSC crown, earning the top spot in the preseason poll with 503 points, including 38 of the 39 first-place votes. Coming in second was UT Tyler followed by St. Edwards and Lubbock Christian.
 
UNANIMOUS #1:
ASU will begin the season atop Division II after being selected unanimously No. 1 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Preseason Coaches' Poll.
 
NCBWA PRESEASON ALL-AMERICANS:
The Rams had four players selected to the NCBWA Preseason All-American Team, earning First-Team honors was outfielder Jacob Guerrero who was also selected as the 2024 Lone Star Conference Preseason Player of the Year. Being named to the All-American Second-Team is starting pitcher Braxton Pearson, who was named Lone Star Conference Preseason Pitcher of the Year and catcher Tripp Clark. Rounding out the honors is utility man Austin Beck who was named an Honorable Mention.
