Rams Fall in Game Four to Split Series Against UTPB

ODESSA, Texas — A late surge from the third-ranked Angelo State baseball team was not enough as the Rams fell to UT Permian Basin 6-5 on Sunday afternoon at Roden Field.

With the loss, the Rams split the series with the Falcons and now hold an 8-4 overall record.

The Blue and Gold struck first in the ballgame as Tayten Tredaway doubled down the right field line to score Tripp Clark, who reached on a fielder's choice.

The Falcons responded with a bases-loaded walk in the first inning and before an RBI single down the right side gave them a 2-1 lead in the second.

The Rams tied it back in the third as Blake Wilhoite hit a two-out single through the right side to put himself in position to score as Jacob Guerrero hit an RBI-double to left-center.

UTPB regained the lead in the bottom half of the frame, scoring on a sac-fly to left field. The Falcons added three more runs in the sixth, hitting two RBI-doubles and another sacrifice fly to make it 6-2.

Derek Klosowski started on the mound for the Rams and was tagged with the loss, allowing three runs, two of which were earned, off four hits and two walks while striking out one in 2 1/3 innings of work.

ASU scratched a run across in the seventh as Jaxon Weatherly led off with a triple to left and in the ensuing at-bat Weston Valasek brought him in with a sacrifice fly.

The Rams added two more in the ninth as Ryder McDaniel sliced a two-out, bases loaded single to left field, but the Falcons were able to hold onto the lead, forcing a ground out to end the game.

The Rams will be back in action next weekend when they return home to start a four-game series against UT Tyler on Friday, Feb. 23 with the first pitch from Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium scheduled for 3 p.m.
