Alpine, Texas – The Angelo State men's basketball team closed out their six-game road trip with a 77-64 win over LSC newcomers Sul Ross State on Sunday afternoon inside the Gallego Center in Alpine.
The Rams got off to a hot start, opening the game on a 15-0 run in the game's first 6:50. For the game, the Rams shot 50.8 percent from the field.
The Rams out-rebounded the Lobos 37-29 and dominated inside, scoring 36 points in the paint compared to the hosts' 18.
Sterling Gaston-Chapman scored a career-high 22 points on 7-for-15 shooting from the field and 3-for-5 from three-point range. The senior made all five free throw attempts and grabbed four rebounds. The senior guard has scored double figures in ten of the Rams' 13 games this season.
Shemar Smith added a season-high 15 points, converting seven of his nine shots from the field. The senior forward made a three-pointer and grabbed five rebounds. This is Smith's fifth game in double figures this season and second in a row.
DJ Freeman joined his senior teammates in double digits with a season-high 14 points while also grabbing a team-leading eight rebounds. He was perfect in five attempts from the field and went 4-for-5 from the free throw line. He also blocked a shot and grabbed a steal. This is Freeman's first game in double figures since the season opener, and the 14 points match his point output from the past seven games.
Damonze Woods and
Carvell Teasett each scored nine points. Woods grabbed three rebounds, while Teasett had four and led the Rams with two assists.
Kaden Evans had four rebounds and a pair of steals, and
Blessing Adesipe grabbed six rebounds in 12 minutes off the bench.
The Rams improve to 9-4 on the season and 5-2 in LSC play. They are back home next weekend to kick off a four-game home stand, starting with No. 13 West Texas A&M on Thursday night.
