Lubbock, Texas – The Angelo State men's basketball team played a tight game against Lubbock Christian, who are receiving votes in the NABC Division II Top 25 poll, on Thursday evening inside the Rip Griffin Center, with the hosting Chaps ending the night with a 66-62 win.
The Rams carried a four-point lead into the halftime break, but the Chaps shot 51.9 percent from the field after the break and made six threes.
The Rams took care of the ball, only committing three turnovers, a season-best mark for the Rams; they also forced the Chaps into 15 turnovers.
Three Rams scored in double figures, led by
Shemar Smith and his 17 points. Smith shot 8-for-13 from the field and grabbed five rebounds; he blocked a shot and grabbed a pair of steals on the defensive end of the floor.
Kendrick Delahoussaye had 13 points, converting all five of his attempts from the free-throw line. Delahoussaye was one of two Rams to record three steals.
Sterling Gaston-Chapman scored 11 points on 5-for-9 shooting from the field, grabbed six rebounds, and led the Rams with two assists.
DJ Freeman had eight points and six rebounds in 24 minutes off the bench, and
Kaden Evans had five points, four rebounds, and three steals.
The Rams are now 14-10 on the season and 10-8 in LSC play. They close out their road schedule on Saturday afternoon against Midwestern State, who are coming off a win against UT Permian Basin.
