SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State men's basketball team shot 53.3 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from three-point range in the first half as they claimed a 76-62 victory over UT Tyler on Saturday afternoon inside the Junell Center – Stephens Arena in a game where they never trailed.
Ten of the Rams' 16 makes from the field in the first half came from three-point range; their 15 made threes today is a single-game high this season.
The Rams scored the first 11 points and 16 of the first 20 over the game's opening six minutes.
One of five seniors honored before today's game,
Sterling Gaston-Chapman led all players with 21 points – he recorded his third double-double of the season and finished the game with nine assists, one shy of a triple-double.
Kendrick Delahoussaye scored 14 points, grabbed four rebounds, and assisted four times.
Kaden Evans and
Carvell Teasett each scored 12 points, with the duo combining to make seven threes. Evans also added six rebounds and three assists.
DJ Freeman flirted with a double-double for the second game in a row, scoring eight points and grabbing 13 rebounds as the Rams dominated the rebounding battle, winning 46-33.
After not grabbing double-digit rebounds in any game this season, Freeman has done so in the past three games, averaging 13.3 rebounds in the last three games.
Blessing Adesipe had five points and five rebounds off the bench, and freshman
Kollin Allbright scored his first collegiate points, making a layup and a free throw to finish with three points and a rebound.
The Rams improve to 16-11 on the season and 12-9 in LSC play; they close out the regular season on Thursday when they host UT Permian.
