SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State men's basketball team finished the regular season on a high note on Thursday evening inside the Junell Center – Stephens Arena, defeating UT Permian Basin 74-67 as the Rams punched their ticket to next week's Lone Star Conference Tournament in Frisco.
Down by 12 points at the break, the Rams out-scored the Falcons 53-34 in the second half, thanks to a 63.3 percent shooting percentage from the field and 54.6 percent from three.
The Rams' defense forced the Falcons into 18 turnovers, which the Rams turned into 28 points.
Carvell Teasett and
Shemar Smith each scored 20 points.
Teasett shot 4-for-14 from the field and 4-for-8 from the three-point line while assisting thrice.
In his first game back after a two-game absence due to injury, Smith scored his 20 points in 22 minutes off the bench. He shot 7-for-9 from the field and 6-for-8 from the free-throw line. He also grabbed four rebounds.
Sterling Gaston-Chapman turned in an all-around performance, scoring 12 points and leading the Rams with six rebounds, five assists and four steals. His four steals are a career-best for the senior guard.
Kaden Evans scored ten points, making two threes and sinking two free throws with eight seconds left to ice the game.
Kendrick Delahoussaye scored seven points while
DJ Freeman and
Blessing Adesipe each grabbed four rebounds.
The Rams close out the regular season with a 17-11 overall record and a 13-9 record in LSC play. Their next game will be in the LSC Quarterfinal next Friday in Frisco, with their opponent to be determined after all league games finish play on Saturday.
