SAN ANGELO, Texas – The No. 2 Angelo State baseball team will hit the road for the first time in the 2025 campaign as the Rams travel to Tyler, Texas to take on No. 16-ranked UT Tyler Patriots in a four-game, Lone Star Conference series, beginning on Friday, Feb. 7.

In what has become a back and forth affair since the first meeting in 2021, the Rams hold onto a one game lead in the series despite the Patriots taking three of the four game series last season.
LAST TIME OUT:
ASU opened the 2025 season with a four-game sweep of UT Permian Basin at home by combined score of 51-7. The Rams scored 10+ plus in every contest with a run being scored by 12 different batters.
The Rams lead the Lone Star Conference in team batting average (.445), on base percentage (.570), stolen bases (12), ERA (1.61), hits allowed (17), runs allowed (7) and opponents' batting average (.183).
SCOUTING UT TYLER:
The Patriots came out the gates red hot to start the 2025 season, after a close 7-6 game one victory, UTT scored 15+ runs in each of the last three contests to secure a sweep of then No. 12-ranked Lubbock Christian on the road.
UT Tyler lead the LSC in multiple offensive categories including runs scored (56), hits (54), doubles (18), home runs (7), RBIs (53), slugging percentage (.683) and walks (34). Leading the charge is sophomore infielder Drew Schmidt who leads the Patriots in every offensive stat aside from home runs.
From the mound, the Patriots sit eighth in the LSC with a 4.91 ERA as a staff. Unanimous Preseason All-Region selection Rawley Hector highlights the rotation as he delivered six innings where he allowed three runs (one earned) off three hits and three walks.
CONFERENCE FAVORITES:
The Rams were selected as the favorites to take the 2025 LSC crown, earning the top spot in the preseason poll with 483 points, including 29 of the 39 first-place votes. Coming in second was Lubbock Christian followed by West Texas A&M, UT Tyler and St. Edwards to round out the top five.
