SAN ANGELO, Texas – The top-ranked Angelo State baseball team continues to rake in postseason recognition, with seven Rams earning South Central Region honors from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).
After steering the Rams to a stellar 41-7 regular-season record, a Lone Star Conference (LSC) regular-season crown, and a conference tournament title, head coach
Kevin Brooks has been named the NCBWA South Central Region Coach of the Year.
Angelo State leads the region with four players earning first-team honors, beginning with standout second baseman
Austin Beck. The exercise science major from Allen, Texas hit .385 with 48 RBIs and 63 runs scored—setting a new Lone Star Conference record for career runs. Earlier this season, Beck also broke the program's all-time record for career stolen bases during a matchup against St. Mary's.
Jacob Guerrero, an accounting major from Colleyville, Texas, secured first-team honors for the third consecutive year in the outfield. Guerrero led the team—and ranked among the national leaders—with a .406 batting average, 84 hits, 40 walks, and 129 total bases.
Chase Pendley, in his debut season with the Rams, claimed the first-team designated hitter spot after batting .410 with 77 hits, 13 doubles, 3 triples, and 47 RBIs. The Interdisciplinary Studies major from Prosper, Texas delivered a clutch, go-ahead two-RBI single that clinched the LSC Tournament title for Angelo State last weekend.
On the mound,
Dax Dathe earned his second straight first-team nod as a starting pitcher. Dathe posted a 3.15 ERA with two shutouts and 85 strikeouts, ranking among the LSC's best in all three categories.
Rounding out the honors,
Lane Hutchinson was named to the second team at third base, while
Ethan Flodstrom received honorable mention recognition.
The Rams continue their postseason journey tonight in the NCAA Division II South Central Regional, taking on St. Edward's at Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
