Richardson, Texas – Following a standout performance last weekend at the New Mexico Team Open, Angelo State senior sprinter
Rami Balti has been named the Lone Star Conference Indoor Male Track Athlete of the Week, the conference announced this afternoon.
Balti, who earned USTFCCCA Division II National Athlete of the Week yesterday, ran a 46.68 in the 400m dash, winning the event. His mark is second in Division II this season and the 19
th-fastest in Division II history.
The Business major also served as the anchor leg on the 4x400m relay team that took top honors at the meet, crossing the line in 3:09.08. Balti's split in the relay was 46.97.
The team's 4x400m relay mark is the fifth-best in the country in that event and is fifth all-time in Division II on a record-legal track.
Balti is the second Ram this season to earn the conference's track athlete of the week honors, joining teammate
William Opare, who earned the award after the season's opening meet on December 9
th.
The Rambelles and Rams, who are ranked eighth in the country, are back in action next weekend at the Jarvis Scott Open.
