RICHARDSON, Texas – Following a record-setting weekend, Angelo State's second baseman
Austin Beck was named Lone Star Conference Hitter of the Week for the third time this season, the conference announced Monday.
Beck, a redshirt senior pursuing his MBA, broke the program's all-time records for hits and RBIs while leading the Rams to a road sweep of Eastern New Mexico. The Allen, Texas native totaled 12 hits and eight RBIs over the series, adding five doubles, one triple, three walks and four stolen bases. He also scored 11 runs — the most by any player in a single LSC series this season.
He opened the weekend with a five-hit performance, tying a program single-game record. That game also saw Angelo State set program records for runs scored in a conference game (26) and totals hits in any single game (30).
Beck now has 311 career hits and 214 RBIs, both program bests. He enters the week on an eight-game hitting streak and leads the conference in runs scored (56) and stolen bases (39).
Beck and the Rams return home for their final regular-season series, hosting Cameron beginning Friday, Apr. 24 at Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium.
