The Matches
• Abilene Christian: The Rambelles will face the Wildcats for the second time this season and are looking for revenge after dropping a 3-0 decision to ACU on Sept. 14. Abilene Christian holds to the overall series advantage, 54-29. Last season, the Wildcats defeated the 'Belles, 3-0, in Abilene, Texas and 3-2 at the Lone Star Conference Championships in Canyon, Texas. Angelo State will look for its first victory over Abilene Christian since a 3-1 win in San Angelo, Texas in 2008.
• Southwestern Oklahoma: Angelo State will host Southwestern Oklahoma in the 'Belles first home match since a 3-0 sweep of Tarleton State on Sept. 16. The Rambelles lead the all-time series, 4-1. Last season, ASU defeated the Bulldogs, 3-0, in Weatherford, Okla. The only time Southwestern Oklahoma was victorious over the 'Belles, was in 2007, when the Bulldogs won in three sets.
• Central Oklahoma: The 'Belles and Bronchos will face off for the 27th time in program history. UCO leads the all-time series, 15-11. Last season, Angelo State defeated Central Oklahoma, 3-1, in Edmond, Okla., on Oct. 17.
Caroline Cleveland and
Chelsea Gibson tallied double-digit kills in the victory. Cleveland notched 13 kills, while Gibson registered 10.
The Coaches
• Angelo State: Chuck Waddington (Rensselaer, 1993) took over the ASU program in 2008 and has since guided the 'Belles to a 42-33 overall mark. Waddington has propelled the Rambelles to back-to-back conference appearances in 2008 and 2009. Under Waddington's tutelage, the 'Belles finished third in the LSC Tournament.
• Abilene Chrsitian: Kellen Mock (Abilene Christian, 2005), a former standout at ACU, has begun her fifth season with the Wildcats, leading them to an overall 101-43 mark. Mock guided the Wildcats to a 29-6 record last year and helped them finish second in the Lone Star Conference Championships.
• Southwestern Oklahoma: Bo Pagliasotti (Texas A&M-Commerce, 1997) has been the head coach of the Southwestern Oklahoma volleyball program since its inception in 2005. Each year the Bulldogs showed steady improvement under Pagliasotti bettering their win-loss total from the previous season through 2007 which ended with a 14-19 overall record.
• Central Oklahoma: Jeff Boyland (Mid-America) is now in his eighth year at the helm of the Central Oklahoma volleyball program. He currently holds a 167-84 overall record and has guided the Bronchos to a pair of Division II national tournaments. Boyland has coached 18 All-LSC selections, including four All-South Central Region performers and one All-American in his tenure.
The Program
• The 'Belles went 1-3 last weekend at the Lady Blues Regional Crossover Tournament in Topeka, Kan. Angelo State swept Southwest Baptist and fell to teams ranked in the top 15 in the nation (No. 12 Truman State, No. 11 Emporia State and No. 7 Washburn).
• ASU is currently 3-1 in the Lone Star Conference after it's two wins at Texas A&M-Commerce and Texas Woman's.
• Head coach
Chuck Waddington added assistant coach Qi Wang to his staff over the summer. Wang brings a wealth of experience to ASU as he was the former head coach at Florida Tech, Northern Michigan and Truman State. The China native led Truman State to the national title game in 2002 and 2004, and was named Division II National Coach of the Year in 2002.
• Former East Central standout Holly Hicks also has joined the 'Belles coaching staff as graduate assistant. Hicks enters her first year of coaching with numerous hours of playing time on her resume. The Round Rock, Texas native competed as a member of the Austin Juniors, one of the top club programs in the state, and earned an athletic scholarship to Texas Tech.
• ASU Volleyball was picked to finish third in the conference behind West Texas A&M and Abilene Christian University.
This Week's Opponents
• No. 21 Abilene Christian: The Wildcats also competed at the Lady Blues Regional Crossover Tournament last weekend and went 3-1. ACU defeated Southwest Baptist (3-0), Nebraska-Omaha (3-1) and No. 11 Emporia State (3-1) before falling to No. 12 Truman State in five sets. The Wildcats hold a 13-3 overall mark and a 4-0 record in conference action. They are led offensively by Shawna Hines and Ijeoma Moronu. Hines has accumulated a team-leading 167 kills, 85 total blocks and a .314 hitting percentage. Moronu is averaging 9.51 assists per set, with a total of 561 assists.
• Southwestern Oklahoma: The Bulldogs will come into the Junell Center with a 7-13 record and a 1-4 Lone Star Conference mark. In its last match, Southwestern Oklahoma defeated Pittsburg State, 3-2, to snap a four-game losing skid. The Bulldogs are looking to get their first road victory after compiling an 0-6 mark on the road. SWOSU is led by Danielle Nelms' 167 kills and LaKendra Sanders' .270 hitting percentage and 65 total blocks. Callie Martin and Brooklyn Hendry split time at the setter position, while Martin has 291 assists and Hendry has 242.
• Central Oklahoma: The Bronchos hold a 14-5 overall mark and a 4-1 record in the Lone Star Conference. Their only conference loss came at the hands of West Texas A&M on Sept. 25. UCO went 2-1 in the Arkansas Tech/Hampton Inn Invitational last weekend. The Bronchos fell to host Arkansas Tech, 3-0, to open the invite, but rebounded with victories over Henderson State (3-0) and University of Arkansas-Monticello (3-0). Central Oklahoma is led by Zuela Adom's 258 kills and 46 total blocks. Setter Fleming Smurthwaite has totaled 551 assists for the Bronchos.
