SAN ANGELO
– The Angelo State soccer team concluded nonconference play last week and will now look ahead to Lone Star Conference match-ups. This week features two home contests for the Rambelles (4-3-1, 1-0 LSC), beginning with Central Oklahoma on Friday at 4 p.m., and then Southwestern Oklahoma Sunday at 1 p.m. Both matches will take place at the ASU Soccer Field.

Last week, ASU moved into the top-10 NCAA Regional South Central Rankings after going 1-1 in two home contests. The No. 8 Rambelles outlasted Incarnate Word, 2-1, Sept. 24 in each team's opening conference match. The 'Belles' Lauren Carnes and Brandie DeBacker both tallied goals in the wet and sloppy conditions. ASU was handed its second home loss of the season by No. 11 St. Edward's, 1-0, Sept. 26. Despite the loss, Melanie Peterson had a game-high four saves, while Ashley Brown rattled off three shots for the Rambelles.

Central Oklahoma is 5-3 this season and 1-0 in conference play behind 12th-year head coach Mike Cook. The Bronchos hold a 9-2-1 all-time series lead against the Rambelles. In last season's contest, UCO broke open a scoreless contest in the 80th minute against ASU, as Dominique Dinka tallied her first goal of the season from 15-yards out. Meghan Saliba added an insurance goal in the 83rd minute to seal the victory.

Southwestern Oklahoma hails the reigning LSC Coach of the Year, Mark Persson, who tied the school record for wins with seven in his first year at the helm in 2009. The Bulldogs (4-4, 0-1 LSC) have yet to tally a victory against Angelo State, going 0-10-1 all-time. In their meeting last fall, DeBacker scored the game-winning goal in the 37th minute to give the Rambelles their fifth-consecutive win over the Bulldogs. The then-sophomore received a pass from Brown and was able to escort the ball to the back of the net.

“We have two challenging conference games this week and we really need to make sure we take advantage of playing at home,” said head coach Travis McCorkle. “We have all the advantages playing at home. We get to play on our field, sleep in our own bed and go through our normal routines, which will hopefully work in our favor this week.”
