SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State men's basketball team fell to a St. Mary's team that shot 78 percent in the first half, 83-61, in the opener of the St. Mary's River City Classic held in San Antonio, Texas, on Friday night.
St. Mary's (2-0) jumped out to a 41-20 lead on the Rams (3-2) which included 15-4 run to start the game. St. Mary's went 18-23 from the floor to take the big lead in at half. The Rams struggled in the first half only shooting 33 percent.
Hanif Nixon-Hughes led the Rams in scoring with 16 points and
Javae King-Gilchrist added 12 points. Angelo State outscored St. Mary's 41-38 in the second period but couldn't overcome the sluggish first half.
St. Mary's held a 38-28 advantage in the paint and 30 points from its bench.
