Game 1 Final Stats (.pdf) | Game 2 Final Stats (.pdf)

LAWTON, Okla. –
Leftfielder Garrett Harris and second baseman Zach Cohen drove in three runs each, however, the Angelo State baseball team was unable to stop the offensive surge by the Cameron Aggies as the Rams dropped both games of a doubleheader to open the four-game series by scores of 18-0 and 19-8.

After getting shutout 18-0 in game one, the Rams (24-23, 18-17 LSC) were eager to get on the board in the second game as Harris put them up by two (2-0) when he belted his third home run of the season in the top of the first.

Angelo State's two-run lead didn't last for long, as Cameron's (30-13, 22-10 LSC) Kenny Held roped a two-run bomb of his own in the bottom of the frame to tie the game at two.
Cameron took its first lead of the nightcap in the bottom of the second when Chase Larsson hit his third homer of the day, a grand slam, to put the Aggies up 8-2.

The Rams led off the third inning with a walk, as catcher Toby Semler reached on four straight balls. Harris singled to right advancing Semler to third. Harris stole second to put runners on second and third with one out. Joseph Leftridge drew a walk to load the bases and CU starter James Rhodes walked in a run as first baseman Ryan Morgan drew a walk to re-load the bases and cut the Aggies' lead to seven (10-3).

Cameron, however, was not done scoring as the Aggies sent nine men to the plate in the bottom of the fourth and scored eight runs to blow the game wide open with an 18-3 lead.

Angelo State refused to quit as the Rams scored two more runs in the top of the fifth on two hits (18-5). CU reliever Corey Davidson allowed two walks and hit Leftridge and Morgan with pitches. Both aforementioned Rams came around to score on a ground out by third baseman Zak Leonhardt followed by a base hit by Cohen.

In the sixth inning, Cameron tacked on another run as shortstop Joe Halley scored on a bases loaded walk.

Trailing 19-5 going into the seventh and final inning of the contest, Leonhardt tried to get a rally started as he led off the frame with a single down the leftfield line. Shortstop Brent Denny followed with a base hit of his own, putting runners at the corners with nobody out for Cohen, who laced a two-run double to centerfield. Cohen advanced to third on a fielding error by CU centerfielder Larsson. Cohen came around to score on a sacrifice by Harris, but that was all the Rams could muster as they fell, 19-8, to the Aggies.

Reyna (5-4), who got the starting nod in both games, suffered the loss as he pitched 1.0 inning allowing eight runs, all earned, on as many hits and struck out two.

Davidson (5-3) earned the win as he pitched 3.2 innings of work and allowed five runs, three of which were earned, on six hits. He walked a pair and struck out two.

In game one, Reyna shut down the Aggies in the first inning, but got into trouble in the second as he surrendered six runs, two of which were earned, on four hits (6-0). That inning seemed to get the bats going for Cameron as the Aggies batted around in the third inning and plated eight runs off of reliever Steven Valles to take a commanding 14-0 lead.

The Aggies tacked on two more runs in the fifth and another pair in the sixth to extend their lead to 18 runs. The final couple of runs came on a two-run home run by Larsson who broke the Lone Star Conference record with a total of 28 home runs this season.

Reyna (5-3) absorbed the loss after going 2.0 innings allowing six runs, two earned, on five hits. He walked two and struck out a pair.

Cameron's Ricky Cramer (7-3) hurled a complete game shutout to earn his seventh victory of the year. He allowed just three hits over 7.0 innings and struck out 10, while walking one.

The Rams and the Aggies will square off Saturday, April 30, in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m., at McCord Field in Lawton, Okla. Live stats will be available for both games on AngeloSports.com. The first game will be broadcast live on AngeloSports.com and KKSA 1260 by Jeremy Bryant.
