Danielle Edwards, who was named the LSC's Goalkeeper of the Year on Wednesday, recorded six saves in the game to highlight another dominant performance by the defense. ASU outshot TWU 11-8 in the game with Bateman having a game-high four shots. The loss ended the Pioneers' season with a 7-10-2 record and lifts the Rambelles to their sixth win in their last eight games.
“Defensively, we did what we needed to do,” ASU head coach
Travis McCorkle said. “Texas Woman's likes to send the long ball over the top and we had to win those headers and Dani had to play well in goal coming off her line. She punched anything in that came into her in the first half and then was scooping up balls in the second half. I was really pleased with the team's performance today.”
Horeis and
Maggie Schaffer each had two shots in the game, while
Sierra Anderson and
Teegan Courtney added one shot each.
“As a team and as one unit, we all defended together,” Edwards said.
“We really want this,” Schaffer added.
The win was the eighth time this season that ASU has won a game by one goal and puts the team one shutout away from the program record of nine that has been accomplished three times (2003, 2008, 2010). With the victory, McCorkle has now won 50 games as the head coach at Angelo State - including both postseason wins by the ASU program. Horeis' goal was the 12th of her four-year career.
