Rambelles Set For Semifinal Game Against Incarnate Word

Carnes
CANYON – The Angelo State soccer team plays at 5 p.m. tonight against Incarnate Word in a semifinal matchup in the Lone Star Conference Championship being played at The Pitch in Buffalo Sports Park.

This is the third meeting of the season between the two schools, with Incarnate Word earning a 1-0 win in San Angelo in the first game and the Rambelles taking a 1-0 overtime win last Friday in San Antonio. The Cardinals, who are the tournament's second seed, are 9-7 on the season and received a bye in the first round. ASU (11-7-1) is coming off a 1-0 quarterfinal win over Texas Woman's on Thursday.

Angelo State is playing in the semifinals for the second time in program history with the previous appearance coming in 2010. ASU, which has won six of its last eight games, has never advanced to the LSC title game.

In the previous two meetings, UIW and ASU are mirror images of each other with 22 shots. Kayla Gregory scored the Rambelles goal last Friday in the 96th minute to lift ASU to victory, while Danielle Edwards has 10 saves against the Cardinals. ASU is 8-4 this season in one-goal decisions and have eight shutouts.

West Texas A&M and Midwestern State play at 7:30 p.m. tonight in the other semifinal game at The Pitch. The title game is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Sunday with the winner earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II South Central Regional tournament.
