Game in San Angelo, Texas | Foster Field | Rams leads series 1-0

ANGELO STATE BASEBALL
SAN ANGELO, Texas – No. 24 Angelo State posted its third shutout of the season and extended its winning streak to four games with a 9-0 series-opening win over Colorado State-Pueblo (2-3)  on Friday at Foster Field.

Lee Neumann hit the first inside-the-park home run of his life and Brett David hit his first collegiate home run for the Rams' offense, while Jake Feckley earned the win and improved to 2-0 on the season by striking out four in a 93-pitch effort. ASU (10-2) drew eight walks and had eight players have hits in the game.

“We have done a great job of playing our game,” said ASU senior Doug Snover, who had two RBI at the plate and five assists and two putouts at second base. “We are showing up and taking care of business.”

Ryan Greer led the Rams with three hits, including his first triple of the season. Neumann, a junior from Brenham, went 2-for-3 with a team-leading three RBI that came on a line drive over the center fielder's head. He raced around the bases before sliding in safely for his first home run of the season.

“It just felt great connecting with the ball,” Neumann said. “It was the first well-hit ball I've had in a while. Just running around the bases felt good.”

Feckley, who won the D2BaseballNews.com's National Pitcher of the Week and Lone Star Conference's Pitcher of the Week honors last week, scattered four hits and worked around three walks before Jake Albert and Craig Blair came in to complete the shutout of the Thunderwolves. Albert struck out two and didn't allow a hit in 1.2 innings, while Blair struck out two in two innings of work. Feckley now maintains a 1.42 ERA and an even 20 strikeouts this season through 19 innings.

“I didn't have my best stuff, but I went out there and competed and battled the hitters,” Feckley said. “You have to give that team credit. They did a good job of fouling off pitches and working deep into the count and making me throw them a good pitch to hit. My defense backed me up and I just kept throwing ground balls.”

Zach Cohen led the game off with a single to left field for his first hit of the season, while Brett Parsons, Toby Semler and Tate Allison also had hits for the Rams who finished with 11 hits as a team. David is now hitting .600 through his first 10 at-bats for ASU after his eighth-inning solo home run.

Chris Schindler led CSU-Pueblo with two hits, while Mike Fabrizio (1-1) pitched well but is credited with the loss after going five innings against the Rams.

The two teams return to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday with a doubleheader back at Foster Field before concluding the series at noon on Sunday with a single game. Rick Reyna (2-1) gets the start on the mound for ASU in Saturday's first game, while James Conlee (2-0) gets the nod in Game 3 of the series.

“It's going to be a little different day tomorrow with the wind blowing out," ASU head coach Kevin Brooks said. "It will be more of a hitter's day, but they just have to come out and attack, attack, attack.”
