SAN ANGELO, Texas – No. 18 Angelo State eclipsed the 30-win plateau for the seventh time in its program's eight-year history and remain atop the Lone Star Conference standings with a doubleheader sweep of Cameron on Saturday at Foster Field.

Angelo State (31-14, 15-8 LSC) won the day's first game 3-1 behind a complete game from Michael Lange (6-0) before pounding out 12 hits in an 8-1 victory in the nightcap over Cameron (22-23, 10-13 LSC). The Rams are now tied with Texas A&M-Kingsville (15-8 LSC) for the top spot in the conference, while West Texas A&M (14-9 LSC) and Incarnate Word (13-9 LSC) are a game back.

Lange, a senior from Columbus, Neb., threw his first complete game as a Ram to keep his season's record perfect and get ASU back in the win column after Friday's loss. Lange didn't walk a single batter, struck out four and didn't allow a run after Cameron's Taylor Lyons led the game off with a home run. Rick Reyna (5-4) earned the win in the second game, throwing 114 pitches in 4.2 innings of work. Reyna struck out three and worked around seven hits and four walks. Jake Albert and Bren Schuehler closed out the game to help the Rams improve to 19-4 at Foster Field this season.

Lee Neumann led the Rams at the plate on Saturday with four hits. Neumann has two hits in each game, including driving a ball off the center-field wall for a run scoring triple that broke a 13-inning scoreless streak by the Rams. The triple was also Neumann's eighth of the season which sets the single-season record that was previously held by Drew Caraway from 2007. The junior from Brenham now leads the Rams with a .384 batting average and 27 extra-base hits.

Toby Semler, who had his 12-game hitting streak end in the first game, responded with three hits in the 8-1 win. Semler is now tied with Neumann with 61 hits this season which leads ASU and the conference. Zach Cohen continues to raise his batting average (now .230) after having a three-hit day. Cohen had two hits and scored two runs in the nightcap, while Quaid McKinnon also had two hits in the game. McKinnon hit his 11th double of the season with a shot off the right-center field wall in the third inning to score Cohen, while Ryan Greer hit a two-run triple to highlight a five-run third inning. Greer leads the Rams with 38 RBI this season and has now hit four triples.

Angelo State and Cameron conclude their four-game series at 1 p.m. on Sunday back at Foster Field.

Postgame Quotes

Kevin Brooks // ASU head coach
On the importance of winning both games on Saturday:
It was a huge day for us. We have to keep winning to keep pace with everyone else out there in the conference. We can't drop games like we did on Friday night and expect to stay up there.

On the importance of Sunday's series finale:
Winning three out of four is a great weekend against a quality team like Cameron. They aren't going to show up tomorrow and let us win. We have to get great pitching again and hit like we did in this second game today.

On Michael Lange's complete-game win in the day's first game:
He attacked the strike zone all day and let his defense make the plays behind him. He was fantastic again.

On Lee Neumann's sixth-inning RBI triple in the day's first game:
That was a huge hit and really was the one that broke us out of our inability to bring runs in. He pounded that ball and gave us a jump start.

Zach Cohen // ASU senior
On the importance of winning both games on Saturday:
These were both really big wins for us. It was disappointing last night not to get the win, but we bounced back today and played like we are capable of. Wins are the results we get when we play like we are capable of.

On Michael Lange's pitching performance in the day's first game:
I love it when Lange is on the bump. He just goes out there and challenges guys. He's always working ahead by throwing strikes. If we score a few runs with him out there, we feel like we're going to win those games.

On the importance of Sunday's game:
We have to come out and get a win tomorrow. We are trying to win the conference. We can't let one slip from us if we want to accomplish that goal.

Toby Semler // Senior
On the importance of winning both games on Saturday:
It was extremely to come out here and play well. Losing on Friday wasn't good, but we knew we just had to come out and play our game. We did what we needed to do at the plate and got great pitching once again.

On the Rams scoring eight runs in the nightcap:
Our hitters are really having good approaches and our hits started falling in there in that game. We have been hitting pretty well all weekend but haven't been able to score. It was great to finally start scoring again. We aren't striking out too much now.
