Overall series: Abilene Christian leads 23-12
At Foster Field: Abilene Christian leads 6-2
All-time postseason: Angelo State leads 1-0
Last season: Angelo State swept series, 3-0 (10-1, 13-7, 14-7)
Angelo State Rams (32-14, 16-8 LSC)
No. 15 Angelo State is led by
Kevin Brooks who has guided the program to 297 wins coming into this weekend's series against Abilene Christian. Brooks, who played his college baseball at Baylor, is approaching his 300th win as a head coach and has 12 of those wins against ACU in 35 games played. ASU enters the weekend atop the conference standings tied with Texas A&M-Kingsville and will be competing for their first LSC championship since 2007.
“We are tied for first place and need to win every game,” ASU head coach
Kevin Brooks said. “We have a lot to play for this weekend and have to come out and take care of business at home.”
The Rams enter the weekend third in hitting (.309), second in pitching (4.26 ERA) and first in fielding (.964) in the Lone Star Conference. ASU has outhit its opponents 434-384 and outscored those teams 306-206 this season. The team has hit 301 singles, 90 doubles, 19 triples and 24 home runs through its first 46 games and 1,403 at-bats. The pitching staff has a 4.26 ERA with 309 strikeouts and 159 walks. The Rams, who are 20-4 (10-2 LSC) at home, are coming off a 3-1 series win over Cameron where their pitchers had a 2.25 ERA and walked only 12 in the 32 inning series.
Lee Neumann continues to be a force for the Rams' offense and one of the top threats in the conference. The junior from Brenham leads the LSC with 63 hits, eight triples and 109 total bases. His eight triples put him in a tie for the national lead with three other hitters, while his home also ranks in the top-5 of LSC categories in stolen bases (15), runs scored (47) and RBI (37). He is a two-time LSC Diamond Hitter of the Week and has also not made a single error in center field with 90 putouts. He is now only two triples away from tying Nate Hemm (2005-07) for the all-time career lead in triples with 10.
Toby Semler is right there with Neumann in total hits with 62 and is on a two-game hitting streak after having his 12-game streak in the first game of last Saturday's doubleheader against Cameron. Semler is hitting .356 in his junior season and is tied with Neumann with 15 doubles for the team lead. The Mansfield native has scored 27 runs and had driven in 29.
Ryan Greer leads the Rams with 40 RBI and is hitting .340 with eight doubles, four triples and three home runs in his junior season. The Arizona native has started all 46 games for the Rams in left field and leads the conference with 25 stolen bases.
Brett Parsons (.336),
Andrew LaCombe (.331) and
Quaid McKinnon (.325) make it six Rams who are hitting over .300 coming into this weekend, while
Doug Snover (.292) has 45 hits and 18 stolen bases. Parsons has 33 RBI and three home runs this season with LaCombe driving in 29 and scoring 31 runs. LaCombe, a junior catcher from Southlake, holds the ASU all-time single-season record by throwing out 24 runners who were trying to steal a base. He is only three away from the all-time career record of 27 which is currently held by Trey Carter (2008-09).
Michael Lange (6-0) will make his 10th start of the season this weekend after picking up his first complete-game victory as a Rams last Saturday against Cameron. Lange, a junior from Nebraska, has a 3.88 ERA and has 35 strikeouts and only nine walks through 48.2 innings pitched.
Rick Reyna (5-4) will be making his 12th start and enters with a team leading 54 strikeouts. Reyna, a senior from Mission, has 104 strikeouts in his two years at ASU.
James Conlee moved to 5-1 on the season last Sunday with another strong start and will be making his 10th start and 15th appearance. Conlee has made 42 appearances in his career at ASU which ranks him fourth all-time.
Craig Blair, a senior from Pflugerville, is third all-time with 64 appearances while Jeremy Tietze (2007-10) holds the appearance record with 81.
Jake Feckley (5-2) comes into the weekend with 10 starts, while
Matt Rechkemmer (1-0) has made three starts after a strong performance last Friday against Cameron.

Jake Albert, a sophomore from Conroe, has solidified himself in the bullpen and has made 19 appearances and has struck out 17 in 25.1 innings of work.
Abilene Christian Wildcats (24-22, 11-13 LSC)
Abilene Christian is led by Britt Bonneau who is in his 16th season as the head coach of ACU after a playing career at Lubbock Christian and the University of Oklahoma. Bonneau and the Wildcats are 11-13 in LSC play this season after losing their first conference series of the season last weekend at home against Tarleton State. ACU has not won a conference series this season with splits against Incarnate Word, Cameron, Texas A&M-Kingsville and West Texas A&M. The Wildcats are in sixth place in the conference standings entering the weekend and have not sealed a berth to the conference tournament.
“I think they are a really good team but they have been losing some late leads which is uncharacteristic of them,” said Brooks of ACU. “They have great arms but have struggled, and hit the ball well but have struggled to score runs. Hopefully they don't put it all together this weekend against us.”
The Wildcats are hitting .295 as a team and have a 6.10 pitching staff ERA through their first 46 games. ACU has hit 78 doubles, 13 triples and 12 home runs at the plate, while its pitching staff has 256 strikeouts and 135 walks on its stat sheet. The team is 3-1 in extra-inning games and has had a season-long seven game winning streak. ACU is currently on a two-game skid but has not has a three-game losing streak so far this season.
Chuck Duarte leads Abilene Christian with a .378 batting average through his first 156 at-bats and has a team-leading 36 RBI. The second baseman from El Paso has 43 singles, 11 doubles, four home runs and a triple to his name in his junior season. Duncan Blades, a sophomore from Canada, is hitting .356 with 31 singles and 16 doubles, while Tyler Eager is hitting .330 and has scored 50 runs in his freshman campaign. Reed Watson (.308) and Rodge Macy (.306) round out the five Wildcats hitting over .300, while Kyle Conwell (.297) has three home runs.
Clint Cooper, a junior from Dover, Okla., leads the ACU pitching staff with a 7-3 record despite a 6.39 ERA. Cooper has struck out 31, walked 18 and given up 54 hits in 43.2 innings. Left-hander Brady Rodriguez (4.24 ERA) is 3-0 through 21 appearances, while Josh Stone (4.26 ERA) leads the team with four saves but also has a 5-6 record.
