SAN ANGELO, Texas – No. 9 Angelo State was above average in every phase of the game of baseball in a doubleheader sweep of Eastern New Mexico University on Friday at Foster Field. Now the Rams are in position to sweep the series.

ASU (26-10, 8-5 LSC) took the first game of the series 13-3 before taking the nightcap, 8-2, over the Greyhounds (11-21, 2-13 LSC). The Rams, who are now 16-2 at home, hit .365, went 9-for-9 on stolen base attempts, hit two home runs, six doubles and had a fielding percentage of .986 behind two starting pitchers who both earned their fifth wins of the season.

“I thought we did a great job of situational hitting and did a good job with our bunting and base running,” ASU head coach Kevin Brooks said. “We did a lot of great things offensively without as many hits as we are capable of. We didn't have a stellar day for batting average, but we got the job done. I loved the focus our guys had out there.”

Jake Feckley (5-1), who was last week's LSC Pitcher of the Week for his performance at West Texas A&M, earned the win in the first game by going 6.0 innings where he scattered five hits and struck out five.

“I felt really good out there and was able to keep their bats quiet for most of the game,” Feckley said. “I gave up more walks than I would have liked and some runs there, but the offense picked me up. I hurt myself with some careless pitches, but it was a good win. When the offense put up some runs I was really just able to go out there and pitch without pressure.”

Michael Lange (5-0) moved from the rotation's fourth starter to the third game this weekend, but continued being one of the most consistent players in the conference. Lange went 5.1 innings, striking out three and not walking a single Greyhound batter.

“He did what he always does. He threw strikes and battled,” said Brooks of Lange. “They did a great job in the first inning of making him work, but he got out of it. They had some long at-bats but he was really steady out there.”

Tate Allison, Brett Parsons and Doug Snover each hit .500 on the day, with Allison and Lee Neumann each hitting home runs to remain in the team lead with four each. Snover continues to raise his season's batting average, taking it to .319 after Friday. Toby Semler, Andrew LaCombe and Neumann each added three hits on the day. Parsons went 3-for-4 in the day's first game with two RBI, while Zach Cohen had an RBI double to left field in the second game.

Ryan Greer, the junior left fielder from Arizona, reached base four times during the day and went 4-for-4 on stolen bases. Greer now leads the conference with 22 stolen bases, while the Rams as a team have stolen 73 through the first 36 games of the season.

“He is a great base runner,” said Brooks of Greer. “He doesn't have the best speed, but does a tremendous job with his jumps and reads of the pitcher. He knows when to go and has been very successful.”

James Conlee (2-1) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Rams at 1 p.m. on Saturday in the series finale.

“We have done a great job of finishing this season and we really need this game,” Brooks said. “We have to have that killer instinct and get the sweep.”
