SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State men's basketball team returns to action at 7 p.m. on Saturday in a non-conference game against York College at Stephens Arena in the Junell Center.

The Rams (3-0) are averaging 72.3 points per game this season and are limiting opponents to 58.7 points. ASU has created 57 turnovers through the first four games and have limited itself to only 37 turnovers for a plus-6.7 turnover margin advantage per game. The 3-0 record is the first time ASU has started a season with three straight wins since the 2008-09 season when the Rams advanced to the NCAA Division II tournament and began the season with a 7-0 record.

"Our team is a work in progress," ASU head coach Chris Beard said. "We have now played three games and have had 19 practices together. Our number one objective and biggest key to our season is the process of trying to improve each day. Basketball is a game of mistakes.  Every team makes enough good plays to win.  We tell our guys all the time – victory favors the team with the fewest mistakes."

York College (Nebraska) is officially 2-0 on the season with NAIA wins over Concordia University and Kansas Wesleyan, while it has split contests against Division II opponent in exhibition games. The Panthers are 1-1 in those contests with an 89-85 win over Southern Nazarene and a 106-95 loss to Oklahoma Christian. YC is averaging 92 points per game this season and are ranked No. 24 in the NAIA.

"York College is a good team and is very well coached," Beard said. "I expect them to compete for a NAIA national championship this year. They have experience including 5 senior starters and have good athleticism. This is a team who could win games in the Lone Star Conference. We scheduled this game on purpose and think it will be a good game to see where we are as a team. Bottom line, we have a lot of respect for York's program and we realize it will be a 40 minute game on Saturday."

Kenny Williams leads the Rams with 19 points and six rebounds per game through the first three contests of the season. Williams, a senior forward who transferred from McMurry, was named the Lone Star Conference's Offensive Player of the Week on Wednesday for his performances in the wins over ECU, SWOSU and Arlington Baptist. He has also contributed four steals, four assists and three blocks this season. He is shooting 9 of 10 from the free-throw line and 62 percent from the floor on 37 shot attempts. He is also the leading scorer in the conference for players who have competed in two or more games.

Daniel Skinner is second on the team with 12.3 points per game after scoring 13 on Tuesday against the Patriots. A transfer from Jacksonville College, he has also supplied seven assists and is averaging 3.3 rebounds per game. Skinner is shooting 59 percent on 22 shots and is tied with Williams with three blocks for the team lead. Bryan Hammond and Tommy Woolridge are scoring 8.3 and 8 points per game, respectively, with Hammond leading the team with 13 assists and Woolridge providing seven assists at the guard position.

Thomas Brandsma scored six points on Tuesday and is averaging 4.7 points per game, while fellow sophomores Omari Gudul is averaging 2.7 rebounds per game and Reggie Sutton is scoring 5.7 points per game. Freshman Chantz Chambers did not play in the first two games of the season, but scored 10 points in his collegiate debut against Arlington Baptist and also had two steals.

York College is coming off a 24-9 record in the 2012-13 season that saw it advance to round of 16 at the NAIA national tournament. Andre Vaughn has a season-high for the team with a 26-point game against Kansas Wesleyan and leads the Panthers with 16.5 points per game as a senior. Vaughn played his high school basketball at Dunbar in Fort Worth.

Remi Mignott, a senior guard from Brooklyn, N.Y., is averaging 14.3 points per game for York College after starting his collegiate career at Mercy College. Mignott's top performance came in a 22-point effort against Concordia where he also had six rebounds and six steals. Dylan Brewer is averaging 13.2 points in his senior season. The Keller native has scored a season-high 17 points against Concordia and scored 14 against Southern Nazarene and Oklahoma Christian.

Delton Deal is in his fourth season at York College after coaching at a variety of levels in the DFW area and has started five seniors in each of the four games this season. Deal won a TAPPS State Championship while coaching at Bethesda Christian School and also coached the Brandon Bass Elite AAU team.
