SAN ANGELO – The Angelo State men's basketball team hosts the San Angelo Community Medical Center Classic powered by Foster Communications this weekend at Stephens Arena inside the Junell Center.
The Rams (4-0) will play Northern New Mexico College at 7 p.m. on Friday before taking on Western New Mexico University at 7 p.m. on Saturday in the final game of the Classic. Abilene Christian (0-5) plays WNMU at 5 p.m. on Friday and then NNMC at 5 p.m. on Saturday.

ASU enters the tournament unblemished through its first four games of the season following a 96-85 win over York College last Saturday at the Junell Center. The Rams are averaging 78.2 points per game and limiting the opposition to 65.2 points in those contests. ASU is shooting 54 percent from the field and holding opponents to 35 percent. Â
"Our team continues to be a work in progress," ASU head coach
Chris Beard said. "Our players are working hard and competing but we definitely need to improve our consistency. We play well in spurts right now and have not been able to put a complete 40 minutes of execution together yet. That remains our focus."
"All teams can play well at times but teams that are going to be a part of the fight in March understand the importance of competing and executing for a full 40 minutes."
Kenny Williams leads the Rams with 21 points and 7.3 rebounds per game in his first season at Angelo State. A senior forward, Williams transferred to ASU after playing last season at McMurry for coach Beard along with sophomore forward
Thomas Brandsma. Williams is shooting 58 percent from the field this season and has made 12 of his 13 free-throw attempts. He's also tied for the team lead with junior guard
Daniel Skinner with five blocks each. Williams has scored over 20 point in three of the first four games, including scoring 28 points in the season opener against East Central University and 27 against York College.
Skinner has played consistently well for the Rams and is coming off his best showing where he scored 17 points and had six assists against York College. A transfer from Jacksonville College, he is shooting 66 percent from the field and is also averaging five rebounds per game.
Bryan Hammond joins Skinner and Williams as double figure scorers for the Rams with 11 points per game. Hammond, a senior guard who averaged 9.6 points per game last season at ASU, is leading the team with 19 assists and is also providing 2.5 rebounds per game. Hammond scored his season-high in points with 19 against York College. His career best is 26 in a game last season at Incarnate Word.
Tommy Woolridge is also providing offensive production at the guard position for the Rams with 8.5 points per game, including hitting the game-winning shot against Southwestern Oklahoma State in the second game of the season. Woolridge, a junior from Chicago, Illinois, scored 16 points in that game and 10 last week against York College. He is third on the team with nine assists.
Omari Gudul is coming off his strongest game of the season where he recorded a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds against YC. Gudul, a sophomore forward who is the tallest Ram on the roster at 6-foot-10, is averaging 5.8 points and 5.0 rebounds per game.
Reggie Sutton is averaging 4.8 points per game in his sophomore season, while Brandsma is at 4.0 points and 2.5 rebounds per game. Fellow sophomore

Chantz Chambers scored 10 points against Arlington Baptist in the home opener.
Northern New Mexico comes into San Angelo with a 4-2 overall record following an 81-74 loss to Adams State. The Eagles have wins over Western New Mexico, Western State and Fort Lewis College this season. NNMC is averaging 73.5 points per game this season with Matthew Brito leading the team with 16.1 points per game and Rodney Coles scoring 10.8 points per game. AJ Peralta is scoring 10.3 points per game and is shooting 58.3 percent.
Western New Mexico enters the tournament with a 0-1 record with its loss coming in a 75-62 decision against Northern New Mexico. The Mustangs have also played New Mexico State and Grand Canyon in exhibitions. WNMU is coming off a 91-41 defeat at Grand Canyon. Brelan Berry led the Mustangs with 17 points in their only official game of the season against Northern New Mexico with Steven Loucks scoring 12 points and CJ Grigg 10. Berry also grabbed four rebounds in the game. Â
"We have a lot of respect for both opponents this weekend," Beard said. "Both teams have talented players are well coached. Northern New Mexico already has several quality wins against good competition on their record and Western New Mexico is a very important in-region game for us."
UP NEXT: Angelo State will return to action next Friday, Nov. 29 against McMurry University in Abilene. Coach Beard led the War Harks to a 19-10 record last season as their head coach.
