SAN ANGELO – Cameron's Craig Foster hit a 3-pointer with 1.1 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime and the Aggies took the momentum and then a 76-72 Lone Star Conference win over Angelo State on Wednesday at Stephens Arena in the Junell Center.

The Rams (5-18, 2-13 LSC) led by as many as nine points early in the second half, but couldn't hold off the Cameron charge late in the game. The Aggies (14-7, 10-5 LSC) have now won nine of their last 11 games and topped ASU for the second time this season.

“We didn't execute our defense at the end and let him go right under the ball screen for a wide-open 3-pointer,” ASU freshman Reggie Sutton said. “They took that momentum in to overtime and we didn't help ourselves by executing like we should have been. I thought we played an all-around good game, but we are not going to win until we stop making the little mistakes we are making at the end of games.”

Sutton led Angelo State with a career-high 19 points and secured his second consecutive double-double by grabbing 12 rebounds against the Aggies. Sutton made eight straight Angelo State points to give the Rams a 62-58 lead with 3:18 to play in the game, but Cameron went on a 9-5 to close out regulation and take the contest into overtime tied at 67.

Jovan Austin finished the game with 12 points for the Rams, including hitting a pair of free throws with 7 seconds remaining in regulation to give the Rams a 67-64 lead. Austin would once again hit two free throws to give the Rams a 70-69 lead with three minutes remaining in overtime, but the Aggies would close out the extra session on a 7-2 run to hand the Rams their eighth consecutive loss of the season.

Chris Talkington added 12 points and Bryan Hammond contributed six assists and seven points for the Rams. Dakota Rawls added nine points and Antonio Dye had eight points and six rebounds.

Foster finished with a game-high 27 points for the Aggies, including going 6 for 10 on 3-pointers. Foster also contributed seven assists and six rebounds for the Aggies who shot 46.7 percent from the field and 41.7 percent on 3-pointers (10 of 24). Andrew D'Thomas added 12 points, while Tim Johnson scored nine points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.

Angelo State finished the game shooting 37.5 percent from the floor on 64 shot attempts. CU held a slim 38-37 rebounding advantage in the game, while the Rams had a plus-three turnover advantage. ASU went 1 of 6 shooting in the overtime session with the Aggies making 3 of their 6 shots and three free throws to win the game.

“This one hurts, but we have to put it past us and focus on the next game,” Sutton said.

Angelo State returns to action at 6 p.m. on Saturday against Midwestern State in Wichita Falls before traveling to play Texas A&M-Kingsville next Wednesday. The Rams will close out the regular season on Saturday, March 2 at home against Incarnate Word in the Junell Center.
