Belles Head to Stephenville to Face Tarleton State

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Angelo State women's basketball team will try to win in Stephenville for the first time since the 2005-2006 season as it faces Tarleton State at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

The Belles are 8-11 and 5-8 in Lone Star Conference play. Angelo State is trying to break not only a six year losing streak in Stephenville but a four-game losing streak on the road.

ASU has struggled with slow starts as of late. The last four games the Belles have scored 18, 22, 18 and 13 in the first half of games while shooting a collective 23.3-percent in the first half. ASU has scored an average of 17.75 in the first half of the last four compared to 33.75 average over the last four in the second half. For the season the Belles are scoring 7.1 more points in the second half than in the first.

The last four road games have continued the trend of bad first halves. The Belles are being outscored 130-87 during the four-game road skid but outscore opponents 139-128 in the second half.

Lauren Holt and Haylee Oliver are the only two in double figures during the last four road games. Holt is averaging 12.8 per game and Oliver scores 12.3 over the last four road games. Oliver is scoring 12.1 per game overall with Holt chipping in 11.9 per game.

The Belles are holding teams to 36.6-percent shooting for the year and lead the LSC in rebounding margin. ASU grabs 40.7 boards per game and limits teams to 34.8 rebounds.

The first game between these two foes was an overtime game that Tarleton State won 71-61. Kiara Wright, the conference leader in points and rebounds, led the TexAnns with 16 points and 13 rebounds. At the time it was the Belles first conference loss of the season. Leah LeMaire led ASU with 18 points.

The Belles last win on the road was a 80-66 win over Texas A&M-International back on December 18.

The game will be broadcasted on 1260AM KKSA with Jeremy Bryant on the call.
