SAN ANGELO – Reggie Sutton delivered a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds, but Angelo State couldn't keep pace with Texas A&M-Commerce as the Rams dropped a 96-90 Lone Star Conference game on Saturday at Stephens Arena in the Junell Center.

The Rams (5-17, 2-11 LSC) fall to 5-6 at home this season, while the Lions (12-10, 5-7 LSC) snapped a three game losing streak and sweep the season series against ASU. A&M-Commerce made nine 3-pointers in the first half on 13 attempts to give itself a seven point lead at halftime and finished the game shooting 52.6 percent from the floor.

“They are a talented and deep team,” ASU head coach Fred Rike said. “They bring in a lot of players off their bench throughout and they are one of the most talented teams in the league.”

Sutton had a career night with his 18 points and 11 rebounds and led the Rams in both categories. Bryan Hammond added 14 points, while Chris Talkington and Jovan Austin each scored 12. Antonio Dye scored eight points and had five assists and five rebounds in the game.

Angelo State, which outscored the Lions 20-7 on second-chance points, shot 44.4 percent from the field in the game and went 11 for 25 from beyond the arc. Dakota Rawls and Justin Walling both made three 3-pointers and finished with 11 point each. Hammond scored eight of his points with an 8 for 8 performance at the free-throw line. As a team, the Rams shot 23 for 31 (74.2 percent) from the line.

The Rams led 28-22 before the Lions went on a 22-2 run in the first half to reclaim the lead and give themselves a 49-42 halftime advantage.

Whitley led the Lions with 24 points, including going 5 for 7 on 3-pointers and added four rebounds. Stefon Carson added 18 points with Devondrick Walker contributing 17 and Andrew  Davis 11. The Lions outrebounded the Rams 37-32 in the game.

“They really got it going from the three-line tonight with Preston Whitely having a great first half for them and we just didn't match up well with them,” Rike said. “I'm glad to see our guys fighting out there. We finished the game with two freshmen and two sophomores on the floor and they are playing hard.”

The loss extends the Rams' losing streak to seven games going into a 7: 30 p.m. game on Wednesday against Cameron at the Junell Center.
