ABILENE – Abilene Christian scored four runs in the third inning and took a 7-2 Lone Star Conference win over Angelo State in the series opener at Crutcher Scott Field.
ASU (30-17, 14-11 LSC) stranded six runners on base and saw an eight-game program winning streak over the Wildcats snapped in the loss. ACU (28-19, 15-10 LSC) used 11 hits and took advantage of two Ram errors in the win.

Michael Lange (4-3) receives the loss after allowing five runs on eight hits in four innings of work. The Wildcats' eight hits against Lange were all singles, including two bunt singles in the five-hit third inning.
Quaid McKinnon and
Christian Summers led Angelo State at the plate with two hits each. McKinnon drove in the Rams' first run of the game with a single to right field to score
Tyler Coughenour who reached on a one-out walk and then stole second and advanced to third on an error.
David Goggin would score the second and final run of the game for the Rams after hitting a double and then coming in on an error.
Reggie Rodriguez and
Hunter Choate also had hits for the Rams who fall to 17-6 on the road this season.
Aaron Lambrix (4-4) earned the win with five strikeouts and no earned runs allowed in seven innings of work, while Brady Rodriguez threw two scoreless innings with three strikeouts to close out the game. Ty Taylor led the Wildcats with a 3 for 3 night, while Travis Schuetze, Emmett Niland and Kyle Giusti each had two hits.
The series resumes at 2 p.m. on Saturday with a doubleheader before Sunday's 1 p.m. series finale.
Jake Feckley (8-3) is scheduled to start the first game on Saturday for the Rams with
Mike Weatherly (5-3) slated for the second game.
